Bring your audience closer with live programmes and engaging content. Our specialisms include live programme making (including magazine programmes, chat shows, launches, award ceremonies and event coverage) documentary video and audio (podcast) production, and consultancy on how to do what we do and the strategic use of content in social media as part of value generation, marketing and audience development. Our clients include cultural organisations, brands, corporations and public sector agencies. We also have our own creative projects. Established in October 2000, we launched our first creative project, music brand and internet radio station Radio Magnetic (www.radiomagnetic.com) in 2001. In 2009 we collaborated with others to create interactive audio walking tour series Walking Heads (www.walkingheads.net). In 2015 we launched the traditional Scottish, Gaelic and Celtic music and culture web TV channel TRADtv (www.tradtv.scot). We create compelling content and understand how to use it online to engage audiences and convey messages.

What do you love most about your job?

I love making things happen. I love creating entertaining and informative digital media content in many forms. I get involved in various aspects of a production but I most enjoy seeing a project through from concept to publication and gaging audience reaction. I love telling stories and working with interesting people to convey key messages.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I launched Inner Ear in October 2000 with a close friend from university to start our internet radio station project Radio Magnetic. We became really interested in online broadcast during our time at university through our success in developing the student radio station, SubCity Radio in Glasgow. We wanted to do something professional that gave us similar freedom of expression to that of student radio. Through building Radio Magnetic we pioneered the use of streaming media and digital programme making in Scotland, and the UK as a whole, which lead on to the dynamic mix of specialisms we have today to apply to client projects, and our own creative ventures.

Why should our clients choose you?

I care a lot about doing a good job. I work with talented, trustworthy, good, friendly people and am fortunate enough to attract clients with similar traits.

My specialist expertise has been acquired and honed over 20 years of innovation in digital media. I won't give up and consider "no" to be the last resort. There's usually a way to make something happen if you approach the challenge properly, with a mixture of logic and lateral thinking. Problem solving is second nature to me and I have a large "toolkit" at hand to utilise for any project.

One client said some kind words about us recently that I think sums up how people feel about me and my flexible freelance team:

"I worked with Dougal and his team on a very complicated shoot over 3 days with 6 models and lots and lots of props. This could have been a hard shoot but the guys worked like troopers and made my life a dream. I can honestly say it was the most relaxed and fun atmosphere I have had on a shoot to date."
Stephen Noble Content Director of Equator Group.
