East Riding of Yorkshire
Psychological Therapies in Hull and East Yorkshire are providers of assessment, therapy and consultancy services with a wide range of specialisms. Dr Gerri Moxon is a qualified Clinical Psychologist with experience in the NHS, private practice and charity sector. Psychological Therapies in Hull and East Riding was established in 2018 to try and provide opportunities for those in need of psychological support but who were unable to access this through the NHS systems. Our aim is to provide HCPC regulated services utilising the extensive expertise and training that Clinical Psychology entails, at a price bracket which may feel more accessible to those in need. We are able to provide both face to face therapy at our clinic in Hull, or alternatively can provide an online service.
Having worked within the NHS and then the private sector I recognised the difficulties those can encounter in accessing mental health support. Whilst our NHS services can provide excellent therapeutic input, the nature of funding and NHS systems can result in a lack of continuity of care, or individuals 'falling through the gaps' and not getting the support they need. Private sector work allowed me to provide these services to those in need, but I still found that there were many who could not access high quality psychological input due to price and or location.
Our aim is to provide flexible services whereby we can complete home visits, online therapy or offer clinic space with the flexibility to offer prices to suit your budget.
The title Clinical Psychologist is what is referred to as a protected title, that is, you must have obtained the necessary qualifications to use this title.
Clinical Psychologists not only have the skills to provide a therapeutic environment, but we are trained to apply scientific knowledge and evidence to support you in obtaining positive change. This means that we have undergone a minimum of 6 years training at a recognised National Standard (including Psychology Undergraduate and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology) and have demonstrated and developed skills to work across the age and ability range. We can work with adults, children, families, and couples, and can provide consultancy, assessment, and therapy.
Our training and experiences provide us with a variety of different skills and techniques, working across different therapeutic models (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness etc) to support you and work in a person-centred way. In other words, we should be able to find something in our 'toolkit' which will work for you, rather than us being a 'one trick pony'.
Other professional titles you may have come across such as therapist, counsellor, psychotherapist or even psychologist do not necessarily ensure that an individual has undertaken appropriate levels of training to engage in therapeutic work. It is therefore important for you to check an individual's accreditations before engaging in therapeutic work with them.
