What’s your background in tennis?

I followed a similar route to a lot of tennis coaches. When I was younger, I was competing on a regional and national level as a rated player. I played in what are now known as Grade 5 or above competitions. I really enjoyed the open singles tournaments, and quickly transitioned into coaching. A lot of players coach as their main job – unless you’re Andy Murray of course. It was therefore a natural progression to move into developing other players’ games.

Who do you coach?

A lot of the tennis programs that I create are based around taking a beginner to an intermediate level. It’s incredibly rewarding because the rate of improvement is so quick. You can genuinely see them get better after each session. It’s great to see someone go from learning the sport to being able to enter competitions, and play with their peers. Having said that, I do provide guidance for a few more advanced players. They’re usually in their teenage years and are fiercely competitive. I don’t think you ever lose that competitive drive!

Are your lessons for adults or children?

I teach both adults and children. Children’s tennis lessons are very different to adult lessons, as they have so much energy! I’m fully LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) accredited, and offer both private lessons and group lessons. It doesn’t matter if you’re a junior, adult or senior, the main aim is to have fun playing a sport we love.
