I tutor with experience, understanding, patience and enjoyment. I tutor from the heart, caring about each child I tutor. I carefully plan the work to suit each individual child's learning needs and encourage progression step by step. I am able to keep the child engaged with interest whatever their ability. I have good testimonials on my Facebook tutoring page: @jackyverna1963 or 'Work of Heart Tutoring.' I love this quote 'A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart.' It reflects my sensitive, thoughtful approach to each child I tutor. I have an interest and experience in teaching children with dyslexia and have successfully completed a Diploma in 'Understanding and Managing Dyslexia' at Quality Licence Scheme Level 3 gaining 'High Merit.' I have many years of experience as a Primary age teacher with B.Ed (Hons) Degree, second class first division (1986). I have qualified teacher status and an enhanced DBS certificate in date. I commenced working as a private tutor in November 2016.
I love seeing a child beginning to enjoy learning, engaging with enjoyment and interest. I love to see the child progress step by step with encouragement.
I was tutoring children at a charity centre who needed help with English in Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. I was greatly encouraged by a parent who was very pleased with his child's progress. After working with the charity a year or so later he asked if I could tutor his other children and this encouraged me to start my own business in 2016, tutoring on a one-to- one basis at my home.
I have many years of experience in teaching, qualified as a teacher in 1986. I have a gift at being able to discern the specific help a child requires in English and plan carefully to meet those needs. I have training as part of my degree course in tutoring children with specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia. I have almost completed a long distance diploma in 'Understanding and Managing Dyslexia' and have received 'Distinction' for most of the study papers so far. I have a kind, patient approach.
I prefer to tutor the child in person, but would be willing to tutor online using 'Zoom.' I have tutored children online in very recent years as well as in person.
When the country was under restrictions due to Covid, I tutored online. When masks were compulsory, I wore a mask as did the student. I tested myself before tutoring. When restrictions were more relaxed I wore a face visor. I washed my hands regularly using anti-bacterial hand wash. I have had all vaccines required.
