We don’t just teach content and hope it sticks! We build skills, confidence and empower the next generation of great thinkers, writers and problem-solvers! Every student learns differently and we believe posses an innate ability and willingness to do a bit better than they currently are; and then repeat. With anything in life we can’t expect to do something we haven’t been taught yet, or practised meticulously.
I am an Academic Mentor, working in primary education and specialising in all aspects of literacy (reading comprehension, creative writing, spellings and grammar (SPAG)). I have extensive experience of working with pupils across the English curriculum. I tutor children of all abilities and pride myself on tailoring learning methods to the individual child. Every pupil learns differently and I work hard to ensure that sessions are enjoyable and engaging. I am also a French graduate; holding a first class degree in the subject. I will be training to teach French at secondary level this year. I currently tutor Years 7 to 9, but will consider later years. I can focus on any area required. I am new to the Bark platform and offer tutoring in both subjects (primary English and French) and offer a free taster session. From Monday to Friday, I am available to tutor in the late afternoon. I am very happy to have an initial chat about your requirements and to answer any questions you may have. I hold current DBS and am safeguard trained.
I find it a real privilege to work with young people and to play a role in their progress. It is a pleasure to see them develop their confidence and skills and become a more independent learner.
The best part of my job is to witness a pupil grasp a difficult concept; the "lightbulb" moment!
I have gained some excellent experience in the education sector and wanted to develop this independently. I also want to work more closely with parents or adult tutees to specifically address areas where they or their children require extra support. To work on a one-to-one basis means that I can really understand the client's needs and tailor my sessions to support their progress.
I have extensive experience of tutoring and mentoring in these areas and work hard alongside the pupil to help them to achieve their goals. I am supportive and encouraging and treat every child as an individual. I tailor my approach and materials to their needs and interests.
In my role as an Academic Mentor, several of my Year 5 pupils have progressed from "expected" to "greater depth" in their SATS preparation. One of my current pupils has dyslexia and has previously struggled with spellings and word formation. She has progressed from gaining 0 or 1/10 on weekly spelling tests to now regularly achieving 9 or 10/10.
I can provide my services both online or am able to travel locally to clients.
My work as a tutor is generally carried out online or remotely.
