I was completely stuck. I had engaged a builder named Chris to replace both the bathroom and the kitchen in my two bed flat and redecorate and re-plaster throughout. A couple of months in and I began to realise that Chris wasn't all he said he was. He tiled the bathroom in before plumbing in the shower. He broke a lot of the kitchen units I had bought. He painted over blown plaster. He spent more time drinking than working and took Fridays and Mondays off. He also asked for money upfront. I live quite far away so it took me a while to cotton on. It all became clear when I visited the flat and he didn't turn up as we had arranged. The flat was in a horrible state, beer cans everywhere, materials all jumbled up, some of it missing and some of it broken. I had been had by a cowboy builder. Enter MTG Property Maintenance. Trevor and Colin of MTG worked tirelessly for almost eight weeks, often over weekends and into the evenings. They started off in an environment that was chaotic to say the least. Most importantly, Trevor gave me a quote for the work at the beginning and he stuck to it. He didn't ask for money upfront. They kept me updated, sending me photos nearly every day and also vetting and co-ordinating other tradesmen. Here's a list of the work: - Removed incorrectly fitted tiles in the bathroom and plumbed in thermostatic double shower head - Fitted the whirlpool bath - Fixed poorly laid tiling in the bathroom and tiled the kitchen floor - Fitted and fixed the kitchen units (Madison range from Wickes) - Fitted the oven and hob and solved a design issue with fitting the sink, moving the plumbing so this could go in properly - Patch plastering plus engaging and managing the plasterer and electrician (both very good) - Decorating throughout the flat (kitchen, bathroom, hallway, living room, two bedrooms) to an extremely high standard, including removing old paint that had been splashed onto the window-frames by several previous decorators - Collected materials (paint, tiles, replacement units, kitchen worktop and upstands) from B&Q and Wickes, including checking that they are correct and advising on what's best to use - Built and boxed in hallway stand below the boiler - Built a step in the hallway and fitted a mantlepiece in the main bedroom - Took up the carpets ready for the carpet fitter and cleaned throughout the flat I highly recommend MTG - they have completely transformed the flat. It looks AMAZING. They did what they said they would, they rescued me from a pretty horrible situation and they were courteous and professional throughout the job. I have worked with many builders both in London and around the country (four companies plus about fifteen tradesmen) and MTG have been the best experience by a long way. The quality of the work, the way it's been carried out without fuss and the speed of it have been brilliant.
