Currently taking online lessons with Steven to work on my grade 5 bass exam. Online lessons work really well with all the advantages of face to face lessons but without the travel... Steven knows his stuff and is providing technical understanding, experience, and a stress-free but motivating lessons. Great fun, and I'm learning a lot. Looking forward to the next lesson

Enjoy learning the piano and benefit from my thirty years experience teaching both children and adults. Lessons are in the privacy and comfort of my own home on the border of Halesowen/Blackheath so as the pupil, you have my full attention. I take a structured developmental approach tailored to the pupil’s needs so lessons move at the pupil’s pace. My aim is not only for pupils to enjoy learning/playing, but to give a musical performance and become independent so that ultimately they can learn new pieces on their own. 100% success rate with ABRSM exams with 75% of pupils gaining merit/distinction (two pupils passing Grade 8 (finals) with Distinction last year). Exams optional for adults. Pupils must have access to keyboard/piano for practise purposes as regular practise is essential.
Music is a language and like any language, it is about more than the words; it is about the meaning and expression behind those words. My aim therefore is to encourage and enable pupils not just to play but to play musically. With this in mind, I teach not only the basics of playing and notation but also how to interpret music to enable an expressive performance. Alongside this, I develop a good rapport with students whatever their age, so that lessons remain relaxed and enjoyable. Introductory session is free to ensure that both myself, as the teacher and you, as the student have shared aims and assess a suitable starting point/way forward. All lessons are on an individual, face-to-face basis (no groups/on-line learning) in my home meaning that you have my full, undivided attention for the duration of your lesson.
All lessons are face-to-face in my home on a piano and on a one-to-one basis as I believe this is the best way to learn. For this reason, I do not offer on-line or group lessons.
