Shropshire
My name is Ross Andrew Powell, I’m a Freelance Photographer based in Shropshire. Ever since a young age I have always had a passion for people; and I’ve always been fascinated about learning about other people’s lives and cultures. Naturally I looked to the best way to captivate my memories, which lead me to photography. After studying Photography at college, I started my own business, sharing my skills and interest with a wide range of people both nationally, and internationally. I have been fortunate enough to photograph some incredible weddings, projects, events, individuals; and I’m always looking to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I think the basis of a great photograph, starts with understanding your kit and how to use it. It's almost like learning to drive a car. Once you have mastered the basics of Photography, you're able to immerse yourself in the moment more, and be a lot more 'present' when shooting. With my work, I feel like the luckiest person alive to have the best seat in the house, on a couple's special day.
Nowadays there are a million different styles of Weddings. Most of my clients already have firm ideas of what they would like their big day to be like- and it's my job to listen, plan, and produce. I think it's really important to understand and manage expectations throughout the Photography/Videography process. Along with a face to face meeting before the big day, I like to have my clients complete a Shot Preference List. It's a simple tick-sheet, nothing fancy- just to make sure that we'd be covering all bases- capturing the moments that mean something to you.
One of the things I love most about my job, is being able to be part of a couple's special day. To witness all of the special moments that others may not see, and being able to capture that forever in a photograph. I particularly love the moments just after the ceremony, if I'm able to quickly steal the two lovebirds for a few minutes to photograph. It's the first moment they experience as a married couple, and it's surprising how many people enjoy just getting away from everyone for a moment. I'm able to capture all of the beautiful natural moments, that stay with me as a Photographer always.
With social media and technology booming, I feel like the majority of people are opting in for fancy phones and 'friends of a friend' to capture their weddings/events: favouring convenience/cost over quality. As a result, if most people were to look back at all of the photos from their lives, it would be like scrolling through a phone camera roll. Instead I wanted to break the barrier between expensive Photography costs, and quality products. When I decided to start my business, I noticed a gap in the market: a massive jump between low quality, low cost photographers: and high end expensive. I've always had a love for photography, and I wanted to create a service that was more accessible, while retaining quality and artistic flare.
