Perth & Kinross
I've been taking pictures for 35 years. Last 5 years as Alyth Photography Ltd, full-time freelance photographer. I always work to give you what you want. I listen, then deliver. Recently my tuition has been gaining a reputation. As a result I have been hired as a Lecturer at the University of Highlands & Islands, Perth College to run my photography courses. I also run night classes in photography in Dundee & Broughty Ferry. BELOW ARE THE DIFFERENT PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES PROVIDED PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY: I have a Mobile Studio which I can take to your home or location of your choice. Two lights on stands, softbox, umbrella, backgrounds on stand and two reflectors. This gives the sudio experience in a locatoion where you are familiar, leading to a better image. I bring some props, maiinly for the children. The shoot is designed to be enjoyable so that you are looking your best. I work to bring out the personality(ies) of the people being photographed. I like to capture that sparkle in the eye and that look which defines you. WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY: I work to capture the emotions when telling the story of the big day. The love, the family bonding, the pride, the joy, the admiration, the gratitude and the relationships. After the fantastic ceremony, an amazing meal, entertaining speeches and brilliand party at night, when everyone has gone home, all that is left to remind you of your day are the memorable photographs taken by your professional photographer. The planning of your wedding photographs is important to me. Before the big day, I turn up at the church or ceremony venue to check out the lighting and best locations to take pictures. I also visit the reception venue to do the same. I ask the management about the schedule of events so that I know exactly when and where things will happen. I watch for these special moments, these special looks. I take traditional pictures plus any ad hoc images of folks enjoying themselves. There is even time made for requests for group photographs. You only have to ask, I'm approachable. The photos are taken in whichever style you want. I aim to take photographs which tell a particular story at that moment. You can have a wedding album, a dvd, prints or any combination. EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY: Whether it is a private, public, business or entertainment event, I work to tell the full story. Planning and preparation are essential to making a success of event photography. I work with the organisers to be sure of the timetable for all the different activities. I turn up days before to check out locations and lighting so that I am not surprised on the day. Before the event I have my own plan and schedule of what I'm taking & from where. I work with you to provide memorable photographs of the event with it's stories embedded. COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY: I take the time to find out the message(s) that you want the photos to send out to potential & existing clients. Then I produce images from which you can select the ones that you think best tell your business message and fit with your brand. I work with you to achieve the desired result. I'm approachable and willing to try any ideas that will tell the story of your business. I include images of what you actually do. If you make or fix things, I will photograph you doing that and then show pictures of your final products too. If it is desk work, I'll include that. If you meet people, I'll show you doing that. I am a storyteller with images and I aim to tell your story. I want to build that feeling of trust in you by potential clients and make them desire your products or services. PET PHOTOGRAPHY: I like to bring out the personality of your pet. With your help, I like to get that special look that you regognise and love in your pet. I aim for that magical, memorable moment, immortalised in an image. It is nice to get owner and pet together to show the love and the bond between them. That can be magical. EQUESTRIAN PHOTOGRAPHY: I aim to show the love, respect and bond between rider and horse/pony. There are a number of ways to do that. I look for decent backgrounds for the photographs, whether is is for posed or action photos. A background can make or break an image. I plan the shoot to obtain a selection of images, all with a slightly different story to tell. Jump and water photos can be spectacular so I take the time to find the correct positions from where I can take the pictures. I want the images to be evocative because that is what I do. LIVESTOCK PHOTOGRAPHY: I grew up on farms and am comfortable with livestock. I know what is usually wanted but if the farmer has his/her own preferences then I will do as I'm asked. It can take time to get an image that shows all aspects of the animal at their best. Being patient and keeping calm is essential for this type of photography and I have these attributes. LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY: It can take time to get the correct light and conditions for a landscape picture. I have the patience for this. I can take commissions for landscape photographs. It may be a glen, mountain, hill, loch, moor farm, estate or dwelling. I ask you what it means to you so that I can evoke that feeling when you look at the completed photograph. Landscapes are all about emotions, memories and history and I work to make the desired result happen.
It is much more than simply a perfect exposure and good composition. That's what you expect from every professional photographer.
With portrait & wedding photography the secret is revealing the personalities of the people in the pictures.
The picture tells a story about the person to the viewer.
I make the subjects in the photo feel relaxed and they forget about the camera. When this happens, it is a huge step towards that great photograph.
I use a number of methods to achieve this.
A great photograph has a natural look, not a "forced smile".
I have different ways to get that happy smiling look in the subjects. It depends on the individual being photogrphed.
You don't always need to have everyone looking at the camera.
The best photographs often have people looking at each other or a common point of interest.
This type of image tells a story and evokes an emotion.
Firstly the obvious questions on dates and location. No point in entering a long discussion with a potential client only to discover that I am already have a booking for that date.
Then I ask how many people or items are involved in the shoot. This gives me an idea of the length of time that will be required to take the photos.
The potential client is asked what they want from the shoot regarding style, numbers, story, emotions.
I ask people their preferences and get to know them a little by their answers.
Clients are asked about which specific pictures they want. There are always those "must have" pictures from any shoot.
In the end it is about giving the clients what they want.
Meeting people. Seeing people so happy with the final pictures.
Knowing that I have surpassed the client's expectations.
Seeing the emotions of clients viewing the images.
Being creative.
Every photo-shoot is different. New possibilities, new expecations, new challenges.
I had been involved in photography for over 30 years.
However, more recently work was taking me further from home for longer.
I decided to start my own photography business, working from home. Although the hours can be longer it is a better work/life balance.
I am doing something I thoroughly enjoy. Not everyone can say that about their work these days.
I listen then deliver. I give clients what they want.
Easy going and so I am easy and enjoyable to work with.
Truthful, fair & punctual. You know everything that you are entering in to.
I make my work with you an enjoyable experience for everyone. Happier people take better photographs.
From the start, I prefer to talk to you so no hiding behind emails.
That wa,y you get to know me and I get to know you.
I pay a lot of attention to detail, such as best locations, light and logistics on the day.
My planning & preparation before the photo-shoot allows me to carry out all the work on the day smoothly with no unexpected surprises.
I plan fot the worst situations too, so if they do happen (usually bad weather), I have a Plan B which I can easily implement.
My aim is to surpass your expectations.
You can ask me questions at any time. I am very approachable.
During my time on your project you get my full attention.
