We hired Jason to shoot our wedding at the end of September 2024. We first contacted him several months prior and he was very quick to respond and super friendly and engaging. We scheduled a video call to go through what we were looking for and wanted from a photographer, he's very flexible and knows his stuff. The day itself was naturally terrifying and exciting but Jason was very calming, never intrusive and captured the most incredible pictures starting with my wife getting ready before a few of us guys in the pub before the service. Inside the church, I never saw him once, he was quick to get into the perfect position every time a knew just where to be and when. I was very lucky to have known Nathan O'Brien outside of his photography business in a shared workplace, as shortly after I'd gotten engaged, I cheekily asked if he had any availability on our wedding day. Thankfully he did! And we have many wonderful photos as proof of that. I'd known from the get go Nathan O'Brien Photography would do a fantastic job (I'd seen snippets of his work beforehand after all!) but he also has such a fantastic sense of humour and a real eye for detail. Combine that with passion for his work and countless hours put into it, and you have a top class photographer right there. We were initially uncertain which package to pick but in the end decided for 10 - 12 hours. It was worth every penny - trust people when they say the day goes by in a blur! Nathan captured so many wonderful shots, posing and candid, and it was so touching to see parts of the day that I didn't get to see myself, (absolutely love the photo of Mandy Shaw and Kirk Trodden stood outside the church by the way, that was a master shot!). Nathan was always on the ball with communications and very accommodating to requests. He blended in beautifully with the families and friends at the wedding and I think many had a laugh with him! I've looked over the photos myself many times; I honestly can't get enough of them! The wedding photo reel video ending with the shot of our wedding invitation pinned by magnets on my parents' fridge was such a clever little detail, and also the cherry on top for me (that poor fridge has supported magnets for many years, and that sentimental combination of something old and something new is just the kind of detail that Nathan is able to spot with his photographer's eye). If you're ever looking for a photographer, for wedding or otherwise, look no further than Nathan O'Brien Photography. I was delighted when I was able to 'bagsy' him to be our wedding photographer, and even more so when I saw our photos. And if you've made it all the way to the end of my rambling review, please trust me when I say you will not find a better (or funnier) photographer! I'm sure many would say things such as lighting, composition or a great setting. All very important things for a photographer to consider of course, but for me I have to say connection. If I can connect with my clients they feel more relaxed, the session becomes fun which equals great memories and beautiful images to cherish.
All the usual questions, such as, the type of event or session they are looking for, dates and times required, perhaps their budget if it is for an event and not a usual session. Then I ask questions which will give me an insight into them e.g. if they book a Bubble or Glitter session for a young child I might ask what they are into at the moment or who their favourite T.V character is. This gives me a way to connect with the child quickly and get them relaxed and having fun during their session.
Connecting with families and sharing that special point in their lives is a true privilege and I love that every photograph provides a window into a precious memory that will be cherished forever.
I have had a passion for art for as long as I can remember and the world of photography was opened up to me at the age of 12, when my father gave me my first SLR camera. I have been down many career routes through the years, including teaching and running my own childcare business. I have taken on events and portrait clients as a sideline which has been great fun but always in the background was my dream to run my own photography business full time. So now my son is growing up, my husbands business is thriving and they have encouraged me to follow my dream.
I truly love what I do, I want my clients to enjoy their session with me and fall in love with the results. With my background in teaching and childcare I can connect with families and children quickly, which enables me to make the experience fun and my clients comfortable, this ultimately shows through in their images.
