2024 UPDATE: ONLINE PT OVER ZOOM IN FULL OPERATION! 45 minute Zoom sessions offer the most efficient way for me to coach you incredibly powerful home-based circuit training routines you can use for life. Then, try my 10 week program including 1 online session per week, plus pre recorded versions of the routines for you to practice on your own as part of a weekly schedule that I build for you in the cloud with online calendars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello Bark people! Here is a little bit about me from my website: Hello and thank you for visiting! My name is Alastair Ratcliffe. I’m a personal trainer operating in South West London, and online via Zoom. Since 2010 I have been training individuals and groups, gradually learning what makes people tick, and developing my own blend of weight loss and fitness training. I was not particularly sporty growing up, and it wasn’t until my mid twenties - only a year into a career in finance - that I started exercising regularly and paying attention to my diet. Drastic changes in my fitness, physique, energy levels and mood compelled me to quit finance altogether and set about helping others make the same transformation. I have since gained a diploma in Personal Training, and a Sports and Exercise Science masters, in which I studied physiology, biomechanics and nutrition. My dissertation compared the effects of physical activity levels on muscle strength and bone density in middle aged men and women, and contributed to this published article in the Bone journal: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11332-018-0448-z The real education, however, has been 14 years' experience motivating others to lose weight and get fit. Most people bemoan ‘lack of time’ as the main barrier to an increase in activity, but the simple fact is some of the most effective forms of exercise are short and sweet. This forms the crux of my business; helping people integrate the most accessible and effective forms of exercise into demanding, modern living. Short and intense workouts at home, using minimal equipment is incredibly effective and efficient. I have nothing against the gym, and very much advocate exercising socially, but purely from a time saving perspective, ‘front room fitness’ is the answer: Come home from work, put food in the oven, then power through a 25 minute weights circuit. You’ll be stretched and showered in time for dinner, whilst others are queuing for equipment at the gym. Efficient workouts at home also deals with the childcare issue. Of course, this mode of exercise can be coached face to face as well as online. With regards to nutrition, the same time saving theme applies: quick and easy to prepare meals, with shop bought alternatives where necessary. I put real emphasis on great tasting food, and only recommend personal favorites that I use in my own collection of go-to recipes. I have practiced these dozens of times, and I use professional software to calculate the nutritional value of each and develop handy recipe cards. Many diets fail because they are bland or overly restrictive, and this isn’t sustainable. You need consistency to get results, and so enjoying a good relationship with food is crucial. If you’re satisfied after main meals, it’s far easier to be disciplined in between. Striking the right balance between food and exercise is where many plans fail, and I believe it’s here where having a trainer makes all the difference. Making sure meals are of sufficient quality to fuel your work, activities and exercise prevents burnout, disinterest and injury. Whether due to a demanding career or family commitments, it’s all too easy to forget about your own health and well-being. If you’re reading this, perhaps you fall into that category, but also recognise the importance of losing weight and being more active. If you are fed up with worrying about your weight or fitness and are looking for a seamless solution to set you up for the long term, please register interest here, and I’ll call you for a chat!

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

I help them strike the right balance between exercise and nutrition, with a real focus on integrating it into a busy schedule. I like to simplify things, and take all the stress and guesswork out of weight loss and getting lean.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

Keywords for me are balance, patience, consistency and momentum. Balance your efforts on nutrition and exercise. Have patience, and don't bite off too much too soon, building a solid base of fitness before you get injured or burn out. Gradually build up skills, learn powerful exercises and routines by rote so that you can grab a kettlebell and perform an incredibly effective workout at home in your living room in 25 minutes without even blinking. This saves you time, makes you more willing to exercise regularly. That's the consistency and momentum, and that gets results!

What do you love most about your job?

Witnessing other people change their lives the same way I did, by embracing good nutrition and fitness. Helping others to become happy, proud and confident. Being lean will improve your life in untold ways. I love overseeing these changes in people, it's the best job in thw world...

What inspired you to start your own business?

My own poor physical condition in my 20's led me to take action regarding my physical health, but I had no idea how much better I would feel mentally as a result. I used to work in a very good job in finance, but I was so taken aback by the positive impact of health and fitness that I abandoned a very secure future, and decided to start this adventure!

Why should our clients choose you?

Because I was not always the sporty type like many other trainers. I only truly became active in my mid-late twenties, and I understand that it is daunting to commit to such a dramatic lifestyle change. The point is, I understand the transformation process, unlike many trainers who were always the fittest, fastest, strongest.

I also have a unique take on working out, preferring not to use gyms, but create and learn interesting routines using interesting equipment at home and outdoors. I believe you can train cardio and strength all at once, whilst shredding fat and feeling amazing!

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. Providing the client can a webcam so that I can see them doing both standing and ground based exercises, and is willing to invest in ~£75 - £100 of home gym equipment, I can run comprehensive remote PT sessions.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Remote PT is the best option for those with vulnerabilities or concerns.
