I completed an exercise programme with Nick (through Force Cancer Charity) following treatment for breast cancer. Time was spent assessing my individual needs and capabilities and a programme suggested and monitored accordingly. Nick was very patient and sensitive to my restrictions due to my treatment and fatigue and my nervousness about returning to exercise after treatment. The programme helped with my fatigue, mood, confidence and some of the side effects of treatment and ongoing medication. I wish I had done it earlier on in my treatment. We started swimming lessons for our 8 year old daughter with Active Alex as, although she could swim a bit, it looked like a real struggle, she was also not very confident in the water, didn't like getting splashed, and was really nervous about going swimming with school in January. By only lesson number 5 the change is unbelievable, she'll now happily swim down to the bottom of the pool, (she actually seems to prefer being under water now!) Her technique is vastly improving and she is actually looking forward to lessons with school! Thank you very much Alex, she loves your lessons, and really looks forward to them each week!

Regardless of what the clients wish to achieve I always follow the same process of helping them to achieve their targets/goals. Which is; have a chat with them in terms of how I believe we can make these goals possible. Then talk about how often they wish to train and when and talk to them about the importance of their nutrition, as without a good diet it makes these goals a lot harder to reach. As people say 'you cant out train a bad diet'.
Sticking to the basics of a good workout plan and making sure your nutrition is on point.. nothing beats hard work and determination but the most important factor to remember is patience. It will take time for you to reach your goals and there will be times where you don't want to train or eat for whatever reason but if you can get through that then there is nothing stopping you.
I love the fact you get to meet new and interesting people everyday, all with different goals, targets and lifestyles. I love how I can have my main hobby of working out as my job as well. Its great to have clients then become good friends and you can help them achieve their goals and when you see the success its a great feeling.
Personally I have always wanted a job in the fitness industry and I played sport from a really young age playing rugby and football through school, college and Uni. Part of that involved the gym and I just loved it!! I then started training myself from around 14/15 and after a while a few friends. From then I new I wanted to be a personal trainer, completed my level 2 and 3 and the opportunity to buy my own place came around so I jumped at it.
I have experience in training a variety of people in terms of gender, age and overall fitness ability. I believe this has also helped my own knowledge with helping different clients to reach their goals. I love to make each session hard work but also fun at the same time, I would hate people to not look forward to training with me. I personalise every training program and diet plan for every client to help their goals become a reality. As I said above I love making a difference to people and seeing them change; not only their physique but their overall confidence/happiness as well.
