Hello, my name is Liz Grant and I have been teaching mathematics for 30 years. I have extensive experience teaching in school settings and tutoring students privately. I have recently taught mathematics for several years at a local grammar school with an outstanding reputation. I teach Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-Level Mathematics. I also teach further maths GCSE and further maths A-Level. My teaching goal is always to make mathematics accessible, engaging and rewarding. Additionally, I have been an examiner for the Edexcel board. I am very familiar with the assessment criteria for both GCSE and A-Level mathematics exams. I also assess 11+ school entrance examinations. From September 2021, I will be available for private tuition. September 2022 & 2023 start waiting lists are also available. I provide tuition from my mathematics studio at my home in Rochford, Essex. I believe mathematical misconceptions can be identified and corrected more easily in a face-to-face environment. Online tuition, via zoom, may also be available in this current climate. Using a variety of resources: whiteboards, textbooks, worksheets, mathematical games, past examination papers and PowerPoints, I will deliver targeted lessons to match the ability of the tutee. All tutees will have supported access to 100s of my freely available video tutorials.
Teaching mathematics to students is such a rewarding job. Obviously, I adore mathematics, but I gain so much pleasure in seeing ‘the penny drop’ on students’ faces when they finally grasp a difficult concept.
I have enjoyed teaching mathematics for many years in a school environment, but I also wanted to make a difference on a 1-1 level and private tuition allows me to do this. It also gives me greater flexibility in fitting around family life.
With nearly 30 years experience teaching mathematics I feel I can offer a variety of teaching approaches and use a variety of tried and tested resources from my many years of teaching. I am a friendly, approachable and patient tutor, always making students feel welcome and relaxed in my maths studio at my home. Students are even offered a drink and the occasional home baked treat!
I do not offer tutoring online as I feel I can more easily identify student misconceptions in a face to face environment.
I have been double vaccinated and soon will be receiving my booster Covid injection.
I take lateral flow tests twice weekly also and have hand sanitiser and face masks available if required.
If the pandemic worsens I am happy to temporarily move to tutoring online.
