Peter is an experienced, patient teacher and has been teaching my 9yr old son for 2 years now, not only is my son still engaged he still really enjoys his lessons. Peter goes the extra mile to teach current songs that my son wants to learn, not just the standard run of the mill stuff you would expect. I cannot rate Peter highly enough, he an excellent teacher and if you were to use him you would not be disappointed.

I joined Ultra about two months ago & I love it. It can be hard work, but is so rewarding. The focus is on learning to deal with exactly the violent situations in which you, Joe/Jane Public, would be most likely to find yourself & in a way that, realistically, you could actually make work for you even when you are stressed out of your mind. Marc brings tremendous passion & dedication not only to teaching Krav Maga, but also to making Ultra much more than "just" a Krav Maga school. When you join Ultra, you join a family & everyone, instructors & students, is friendly, welcoming & encouraging. Time & again I have found that the members of Ultra will bend over backwards to help each other out, whether it's something to do with the club or more generally. The instructors are very safety conscious & will highlight techniques, or parts of techniques, which are potentially dangerous & ensure that you perform them slowly, gently & carefully. That being said, Krav Maga isn't about learning Forms or Kata - right from the outset you will be striking pads & performing techniques with a partner. If you don't wear MMA gloves, expect some bruised &/or skinned knuckles, at least until you have developed your technique & conditioned your hands a little. And you will sometimes come away with a bruised arm if you don't wear an arm protector. Don't let the occasional bump & bruise put you off - they are the product of realistic & hard training. If it really bothers you, just get yourself the arm protectors & MMA gloves, both inexpensive & readily available on Amazon. Marc or one of the Ultras will even give you a link if you ask & there's no macho culture amongst the Ultras, so you won't be looked down upon for wearing them. Joining Ultra Krav Maga was something of a step outside my comfort-zone, but it has turned out to be the best decision I've made in some time. In it I have found an activity that I thoroughly enjoy, which has increased my fitness, which is teaching me skills that could potentially protect my life & which has introduced me to a social circle of warm, friendly people amongst whose number I am proud to include myself.
A fun, safe Martial art for all the family, at a long term established school with lessons delivered by a fully qualified Instructor with over 18 years experience.

Jujitsu provides a wide range of techniques from pure escape, to controlling your attacker to the ground, to self-defence when you are cannot get away. Students start at red belt and move up through the belts by grading regularly. Getting to black belt is not the point of learning a martial art, it is more about the journey of learning control and technique. All the instructors have First Aid certificates and extended Disclosure and Barring checks for working with children.
Seeing junior and adult beginners gain in confidence as they move through the belt grades. Hearing stories from juniors about how self defence has helped them with bullying at school. A nervous adult student later went on to join the police.
I hope our students never have to use the jujitsu they learn, but if they ever should need to, it could save their lives - even if it's just avoiding a potential incident or knowing it's better to get away rather than fight.
The club is a non-profit group rather than a business. All the instructors teach for free and have real jobs the rest of the week. We all joined the club as beginners and have worked our way through to black belt instructors. I took over the club as I had the most spare time after work. I'll pass the club on to one of the newer black belts one day, as it was passed to me.
We really are a friendly club and believe that everyone should learn some self defence skills even if they only join for a short while.
We encourage students if they want to train for competition, but our main focus is on self-defence. We train to defend against multiple attackers who may be armed with knives and sticks. We use the opponent's weight against them for throws, strikes and (for the adults) locks. Our instructors each have 20 years of experience.
Talk to us if you'd like a session for your company, or an all female class, or a pure self-defence low-impact session on a different night. We will help if we can.
