We booked Tony for a hen party 1st night ice breaker. He was brilliant. He included all the hens...even my gay stepson who thoroughly enjoyed having NOT having his head chopped off. He arrived in good time and was happy to wait for a couple of late arrivals. Everyone enjoyed the surprise and he got the level just right, with plenty of patter that was cheeky enough for a group of hens.
I would definitely recommend Tony and would book him again without hesitation..thank you Tony

A mind reader and mentalist available for stage shows, private events or close up entertainment. Gary's show is classic mentalism at its best - without any props at all Gary can tell you what you are thinking, where you were born or who you first kissed. The full hour show is called "How I learned to read minds" and involves members of the audience having their thoughts revealed and actions predicted, finally at the end of he show Gary does his classic Q & A act where he answers questions from the audience and tells them things that even they might not know.

Magician Tony Charles specialising in adding a magical touch to your event with close-up walkabout magic, family magic shows or even a mix of the two at weddings, parties, venue and corporate events in Sussex, Surrey, Hants, Kent and London. Also magic parties for children of any age. What you can expect at your event. Magic is such a flexible form of entertainment and can be tweaked to suit your needs. If you are looking for close-up magic for your family, corporate or venue event, I perform walkabout mix-n-mingle magic at your drinks reception, table magic during the meal, a stand up show for the guests or a mix of all these. My tricks are varied, using ropes, money, rings, cards and mind magic, so not just card tricks. Usually for 2 hours, however, 1 hour or 3 hours is often requested depending on the number of guests present. Many corporate clients repeatedly engage me as I provide bespoke magic tricks to promote their brand or message at exhibitions, showroom launches or events. Recent examples are Worthing Audi for their showroom launch and CXS for a trade exhibition at the Excel, London. Should your event be for a children's party, I use real magic appropriately presented for the age group present. Normally a 45 min show followed by balloon modelling. Often I am asked to attend the whole 2 hour party, and in this situation the usual format is a show, balloons whilst the children have their party food followed by either party games, a magic workshop or fizz bang science workshop. Many organisations and venues engage me for longer periods when they have all day events. Recent examples being Bocketts Farm. Leatherhead for Halloween half term 9 day run, and Gravesham council for their River Festival. I have also developed relationships with organisations specialising in provision for children or adults with additional needs. Examples being Extra Time, Brighton, for children, regularly entertaining at their holiday clubs and Fun Days, and Bethany Lodge, Dymchurch, for adults, where I have been performing family magic shows for their clients bi-annually over the past 25 years. In addition to my close-up magic and magic shows, since 2004 I have been working in education as an outside provider presenting maths and science shows/workshops to school pupils UK wide. I use magic to explore the concepts, topics and calculation strategies of these subjects to fit in with the particular learning of students from age 4-16. My remit to inspire a love of learning in the subjects. About 100 schools per year engage me, and historically 60% of these clients have requested repeat visits. Please visit my website for more details about school visits. I have £10,000,000 PLI, an Enhanced Fully Portable DBS check and I am a member of Equity. Parties and events are always special occasions and my aim is for the guests to feel great about the magic experience they receive, and to enhance the overall enjoyment of the event. My business has grown by building relationships with my clients and their guests, and that is probably the aspect I love most about my job, as many rebook, or engage me after seeing my work live. The only way to do that is to make sure I give my very best at every engagement. That is basic summary of my services, however, as I mentioned magic is extremely flexible. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have as to how magic can enhance your event. Tony Charles
My interest in magic started at the age of nine when I took my magic set to my cub scouts pack. I was a sixer. You know the type of magic set I mean, I think we all had one as a child. I then proceeded to work through all the tricks I could during the following half hour. It was my entry for the pack talent competition. Of course I won. I say of course, it wasn't difficult, I was the only cub to enter!
Fast forward two years, when I, as part of a group of friends, went to the junior section of the local magic society. None of my friends ever returned to the club, disappointed as they were to realise that knowing how a trick works does not make you a magician. I on the other hand felt inspired. For me the magic was not the tricks, but the challenge of making other people feel the way I felt when witnessing a magical illusion. That was the real magic, and has been ever since.
My hobby became a career as I turned pro in 1991.
You hear about those lucky people who turn a hobby into a career and by doing what they love 'never have to work a day again.' I consider myself that lucky.
Parties and events are always special occasions and my remit is to make guests feel great about the magical experience they receive, enhancing everyone's overall enjoyment of the event. My business has grown by building relationships with my clients and their guests, and that is probably the aspect I love most about my job, as many clients rebook, or first engage me after seeing my work live. The way I achieve this is to remember every party is unique, that I am there solely for the guests enjoyment, (not just to 'do tricks,') and to ensure I give my very best at every engagement.
Interesting question. It was not part of my big plan. My previous work experience, after the forces, was in sales and sales management, always working with and bouncing off people. Magic was my hobby, however I was building a reputation as an entertainer, purely in my locality. Then one of those life crossroads cropped up. My choice was to take redundancy and accept the offer for a similar job with another company, or realise the dream of being my own boss. Creating a service, marketing it, and delivering excellence.
I opted for the latter and gave myself 6 months.
30 years later I have to say it was the right choice for me.
There are so many highlights working for and with so many fabulous people. Challenging myself to adapt my skills to suit a wide range of events and clients UK wide, such as in education or corporate brand magic, has been and still remains totally invigorating.
So in short, I took the plunge and the inspiration continues to grow.
Yes, remote magic shows and magic workshops via Zoom are an option.
Since March 2020 I have presented over 2 dozen online shows, and due to the continuing uncertainty as I write this in November 2020, remote shows are booked in until the end of January 2021.
It is like TV, but better, the show is for you, and you can draw in friends from anywhere to share the fun of your event.
Remote performances:
1. Remote magic shows by their nature being Covid safe.
Live performances-shows:
1. Wearing of mask/visor as appropriate.
2. Non sharing of same props with audience members and sanitizing them after use.
3. Amending my shows to engage with audience members at 2m distance. Zoom work has helped me develop these strategies.
4. Audience helpers to help from within the audience as opposed to entering the stage.
5. Regular hand sanitizing
Live performances-close-up/mingle:
1. Development of routines that can engage a table or group, with appropriate social distancing.
2. PPE where appropriate.
3. Non sharing of same props with audience members
4. Sanitizing props between tables or groups.
5. Hand sanitizing between tables/groups.
