Nancy Butterworth

I approach any brief, no matter how simple or complex, by stepping back and looking at the bigger picture to create designs that stand out from the crowd. I always aims to provide an elevated, imaginative and fresh way of thinking through pictures rather than words. I love the joy of storytelling and enjoy creating an impact with bold, witty, memorable and unique visuals that bring brands to life. For the last 10 years, I have also acquired a vast array of experience from working in design agencies to now specialising more in illustration, in house at Google and TransferWise to now following my dream and becoming full time as a freelancer. What really sets me apart though is my versatility and flexibility as both a designer and illustrator. I also have the ability to create illustrations in many different styles to tailor to your unique needs, rather than be restricted to only creating illustrations in one style, and therefore limiting the help I would be able to offer you. In my experience, this has been a huge bonus in working with a wide range of clients that, also on my end, keeps me motivated, fresh and enthusiastic to get my hands onto any new project.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the ability to play around with ideas and lose myself in my imagination and really just have fun drawing. Drawing and illustration are my absolute passions in life and as long I'm doing that I'm super happy with where I'm at and where I'm at in my career.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Well, firstly, my side hustle had been picking up steam whilst working full time in 2020. I gained 3 new recurring clients that were giving me constant business and I just loved working with them. Comparatively, I began to realise how much I did not feel the same with my full time job, and the passion was not there. So I took the hard way out, and decided to go it alone. I realised in this year, when so many things were wrong in the world, that money didn't buy happiness and being paid well in house at a fin tech as an illustrator hadn't given me the joy I hoped. So I decided life's too short and quit in January 2021.

I also loved working with a variety of clients and the new challenges and triumphs that are brought with each one. I was bored working in house - with the same style day in and day out, and styles that I didn't necessarily love - they were cemented before I arrived and companies were incredibly stubborn to change them, even though I knew had I had more potential and could create better work if I went out on my own.

I also didn't enjoy pointless meetings, not being challenged and not learning anything new. I love being my own boss and I'm so motivated now to keep working on my business, promoting myself, meeting new clients and learning the whole way through it.

Why should our clients choose you?

I'm a triple threat. I'm a seasoned brand and graphic designer as well as an illustrator and animator. I'm also incredibly adaptable and flexible with my illustration styles - I don't prescribe myself to one style. With advancement in digital drawing, you can use an oil brush one day with big loose strokes, then the next you can use chalk to create a completely different look, so why be restricted to one style when you don't have to be.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can provide them both online and remotely - over Zoom or Google meet but can also chat over the phone, email, slack or hangouts.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I work remotely so this is not an issue. Zoom and Google meet calls are perfectly fine to keep everyone safe :)
