When I was learning guitar, I was lucky enough to have been taught by some outstanding teachers and I think that fun and interesting teaching is fundamental in helping every musician to realise their talent and potential. I grew up in a very musical household and have participated in music/music making from a very young age. I began guitar tuition at the age of 8, with an emphasis on classical guitar playing, and took up electric guitar a few years later.

I'm an experienced guitar teacher based near Victoria Park, Bedminster and enjoy teaching students of all ages and sharing my passion for this wonderful instrument. I tailor lessons for my students depending on age, goals, musical preferences and current ability. I believe a holistic approach to learning guitar is important as it fosters a musicianship that can then be applied to other instruments, singing and collaborations with other musicians.

I have been having lessons with Mark for a couple of months now. He has lots of patience. I am/was a beginner and he broke everything down in a way in which I understood which I have struggled with before. I am getting better and better as a player. From trying to learn by myself on previous occasions, I realise just how much these lessons have helped me to progress. Thanks Mark!

Our son (11yo) has been having bass lessons with Simon for 7 months now. We're really pleased with our son's progress from an absolute beginner to strutting around the living room playing along with the songs Simon has introduced him to. We've done both in-person and online lesson options and both have been great. Simon was recommended to us by a friend whose son has taken guitar lessons with him for a while, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Simon to anyone - adult or child.

Whether you're trying to improve your current skill level, or learn completely from scratch, I can help you make sense of the guitar. I have been offering guitar lessons for over five years, and in that time I have helped scores of students find their confidence on the instrument, I regularly take students out to open mic nights for their first ever live performance. I can also teach from the Rockschool syllabus for those wishing to take exams.

I started guitar lessons with Martin about 18 months ago to prepare for my first ever performance on my 65th birthday last summer. Following that my brother in law and a friend both asked me to play bass for their bands for performances this summer so I have also been taking bass lessons from him. He is excellent at all aspects from practical playing tips to music theory and I have learned a lot from him and continue to really enjoy the lessons.

I welcome students who need mentoring in their guitar graded exams with ABRSM or Trinity, diplomas in performance, performance competitions or just want to play for fun. All ages and levels are welcome.

WILL BM GUITAR·FRIDAY, 1 JUNE 2018 Hello! I am a 25 year-old guitarist based in the South-West of England with over a dozen years playing experience. I began with a small nylon-string instrument aged about 8, thought I could become Jimi Hendrix in about two weeks, and swiftly gave up when I realised that I just didn’t have the discipline. However, two years later I rekindled my love for this fascinating instrument and the rest since then is history.

Jim has been teaching me for over 3 years now. I am nearly 50 and I always wanted to learn the electric guitar. I have so far after 3 years passed my Grade 1 to 4 exams all with "Merit" or above ; and that's all testament to Jim's excellent teaching skills, patience and attention to detail. I am currently working towards Grade 5 and its given me renewed confidence as I was never particularly strong at music or playing instruments at school. I can honestly say that Jim is a great teacher (as well as a very accomplished guitar player!) and I would recommend Jim to anyone young or old wanting to learn or improve!
