Hello, and thank you for visiting my page. My name is Bella. As a teacher for 20 years, I've learned that music can positively impact children's physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. I teach music to children of all ages and in my lessons, I particularly focus on teaching the guitar and ukulele. I teach ukulele to children from the age of 3 years old ang guitar from the age of 5 years old. In my lessons, I broaden and deepen the experience of learning music by adding extra dimensions to reach and accommodate every learning style. By incorporating auditory, visual and action-based activities alongside music, your child’s brain is stimulated to create more pathways in their neural network and the experience becomes richer, much more life-enhancing, and therapeutic. I facilitate children to immerse themselves in their learning in a way that feels safe to them and enables them to discover who they are, to understand and express their feelings through playing their instrument, in a healthy way and to relax and enjoy the feelings that serve them, while letting go of those that don’t. Children love to play musical instruments and to have a safe space to explore their abilities. In my classes they are supported to create rhythms, develop patterns, and coincidentally, to learn a new instrument through story-based lessons (for very young learners). These stories will be based on each child’s own interests, so they feel invested, engaged and ultimately, proud of their work. Crucially, they will have fun and blossom as their confidence grows. My aim is to not simply teach music, but to initiate and develop a love for music that they will carry with them for their whole lives. I also help SEN children (especially autistic) to connect with music and learn to keep calm while still expressing themselves. I am qualified on a personal level as well, with real-life experience and understanding of living with additional needs. My beautiful daughter is autistic, we learn from each other every day, my husband is dyslexic and I myself have ADHD. This experience inspires me and provides constant information, which fuels my passion for creating the best learning environment for every student. And if you've read so far, and you are a grown-up looking for a guitar teacher, guess what? Your brain still learns the same way, so get in touch and give it a go! You can definitely do it. I learned to play my musical instruments as an adult, not from early childhood, so you can do it, too.
Teaching my classes and seeing the joy and experience they bring is reward enough for me, but one of the most beautiful experiences for me, that validates the work I do, is the amount of neurodiverse children who contact me to tell me how my classes have helped them. The most frequent messages I receive are those that tell me how the child has been able to ‘connect’ with music in ways they had been unable to before, because of the visual and kinaesthetic strategies I use.
I taught in public schools for 20 years and I saw every day how the standard National Curriculum doesn't apply to all children. Children like their learning to be tailored to their interests, and to their personal needs. So I decided to resign from teaching in schools and open my business where each child is taught the songs they are passionate about and the skills they will engage with using new, creative and interactive methods, instead of going with old, traditional ones. And I never looked back! I've never been happier and I've never seen so much gratitude from my students and also their parents!
My classes are a beautiful combination of music, exploration and play. Musical games, visual stimuli, age-appropriate songs all combine to help children to develop the skills they need to play their chosen instrument. The learning of the instrument almost feels like it evolves organically as they play games.
Research has revealed that there is a strong correlation between active music making and language development. Children that learn music more easily learn to recognise sounds in speech and grammar patterns of foreign languages. In early years, brain development includes recognition of patterns, rhythms and sounds, this skill supports the skills required in mathematics to deal with sequencing, ordering and classifying. Ultimately, children that have learned a musical instrument at a young age are more likely to achieve higher grades. As a result of my classes, they are also more likely to achieve healthier social interactions.
I provide lessons for young children at the start of their music journey, wanting to learn the ukulele or guitar as their first musical instrument. These lessons are packed with fun and engaging musical games. Typically, three-year-olds have a relatively short attention span and fine motor skills are still developing; I factor this into my planning and teaching so that each learner feels enthusiastic and engaged throughout the class.
Each session is carefully crafted to create an environment that won’t feel like a ‘lesson’. Utilising creativity as well as my experience as an early years teacher, the children will experience interactive, personalised and age-appropriate musical games, coincidentally, they will also be acquiring knowledge and techniques to be able to play their chosen instrument.
I teach 100% online only. I have developed my own curriculum, visual methods and slides and children are very successful learning how to play their instruments using my curriculum.
