Hi! My name is Craig MacQuarrie, and I am the founder of Sìol Music. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 10 years old, influenced by my father. He has played all his life, from when he was 17 to now at 51. I grew up watching him and I have loved it ever since. I have been working as a professional musician for some time now and have found great personal satisfaction in every facet of music work, be that performing live, writing and composing, teaching, or the actual mixing and mastering of tracks.

My daughter Sophie (13) loves coming to practice with Craig. He is a great teacher, really patient and listens to what Sophie wants to learn. Not only is she learning to play the guitar, Craig is teaching her a lot of the history and theory behind it which will help her as she is taking music for her highers. Her improvement amazes me in the short amount of time she has been learning.

We would always advise purchasing your own guitar. It doesn’t have to be an expensive guitar, it’s just nice to get used to your own personal guitar. We can supply everything else that you need, including new strings, plectrums or capos. Just turn up with your guitar and we can get started.
If you’re learning on a steel stringed guitar, you may find that your first sessions are limited by your finger strength. However, you’ll soon find that they adapt to the strings, and you’ll be able to play your guitar for much longer.
Playing the guitar regularly is the quickest way to improve your musical skills. We recommend that you have a one hour lesson every week, although this does depend on your skill level. A minimum of one session every two weeks is necessary – we’ll make sure that you have lots to practise in the meantime!
Not really – except that you’re going to have a lot of fun. All of our teachers are very passionate about music and are very experienced guitar teachers.
