I'm Dan! A guitar tutor from Brighton & Hove. I've been teaching guitar for around four years while pursuing a degree in music and then later a postgraduate qualification in teaching in the creative industries. I'm extremely passionate about developing students to reach their musical goals, and ensuring that they become well rounded and proficient in their area of study. It's important for me to make sure every lesson is exciting and fresh, and that students can leave the lesson with high quality materials to develop themselves throughout the week.

Dan has been teaching my son Euan for just under 3 years now, on zoom! We are based in Scotland and were having trouble finding a tutor that catered to the styles that Euan wished to learn. Finding Dan on Bark has enabled Euan to conveniently take remote lessons to develop himself. Starting from a complete beginner, the progress Euan has made from online guitar lessons is nothing short of amazing. My son has been obsessed with the instrument now for years, and these lessons are the reason why. I would recommend Dan to anyone seeking quality guitar lessons for a very reasonable price.

SAM is the personable acronym of Sussex Academy of Music, a business started up in 2008 by two entrepreneurial youngsters in their early 20s. The premises are a converted business unit in the Riverside Business Centre, and being so new, are well equipped with nothing missing or broken. The situation is good as well - although it initially looks a bit soulless, a moment's walk over to the sea wall provides you with beautiful boats aplenty on the river and a lovely place to practise outdoors on a sunny Saturday. They mostly give lessons to youngsters, but adults can be involved as well. I went here, though, not as a student but to use their recording studio. This proved to be a good move on the part of those who were deciding. The studio was in good condition, with a little dais for drums and a medium sized area for recording - we fitted an eight piece band in here comfortably for a day's session. Our engineer was an enthusiastic, friendly guy with a great musical ear and infinite patience, and really took care with it, almost as if it were his band, which put me right at ease. I'd definitely recommend this place if you want to be well taken care of.

Nice relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and James is a very patient teacher! He's more than happy to cater to your musical tastes and needs. Doesn't mind going over the same points if you don't understand and does it without making you feel stupid. Been going 2 years and am amazed at how long my "can play" list of songs is getting. Also loads of on-line lessons to refresh what you've learnt in the 1-2-1's.

Brighton and Hove guitar lessons is a team of professional working guitarists based in East Sussex. After working in the music industry and the music tuition industry for many years, we got together to write a syllabus based on the skills we think are most necessary to make playing music intuitive and fun. We are all out gigging 2 - 3 times a week, using these skills to get on stage and play with different musicians, and we want to start students out with the information we wish we had known when we started. All our students get access to a personalised youtube channel, with tonnes of video tutorials as well as their own personalised practice videos from each lesson. We are able to arrange home visits to you and can be extremely flexible on lesson times. If you would like to know more about how we could help you realise your musical potential, then please get in touch so that we can arrange a complimentary consultation. Thanks for reading, B&H guitar lessons.
Dave says: "Teaching guitar for a living can be extremely rewarding. There's really no better feeling in the world than the satisfaction you get from guiding an adult into playing when they thought they had missed the boat to pick up an instrument, or watching a junior student fall in love with the instrument in the same way you did at their age. The challenges can be vast, we are competing with so many distractions and commitments, so its amazing when you see your students develop and grow."
Alistair says: "Working musicians in 2018 need to be involved in every aspect of the industry, and a huge part of that is education. Teaching music allows us to earn a living whilst essentially developing our own knowledge of technical basics. It's a massively important part of every musicians toolkit, and teaching these skills really cements your understanding of them. Its also incredible when you gain a deeper understanding of something you already knew by teaching it to someone and gaining their perspective on how it works. Starting a collaborative teaching practice was simply the next logical step for us, since we all tend to work over the weekend so its nice to have this as a project for the week."
Adam says: "These days, we are mostly competing with youtube which is obviously a free service, and that can present a financial obstacle for some clients. There are also paid online teaching services which can seem like better value for money than paying for a one-to-one lesson. However, we have found that time and time again, students who have a regular lesson with an actual teacher develop their playing style much more quickly as they are constantly being corrected on their technique. That regular lesson commitment also pushes students to practice, which is something that purely self-motivated learners tend to struggle with. We offer all our perspective clients a complimentary consultation, so that we can lay out a learning schedule and you can see for yourself how we can help you. After that,we hope you will continue learning with us, but if not there is no obligation to continue."
