I'm Dan! A guitar tutor from Brighton & Hove. I've been teaching guitar for around four years while pursuing a degree in music and then later a postgraduate qualification in teaching in the creative industries. I'm extremely passionate about developing students to reach their musical goals, and ensuring that they become well rounded and proficient in their area of study. It's important for me to make sure every lesson is exciting and fresh, and that students can leave the lesson with high quality materials to develop themselves throughout the week.

Brighton and Hove guitar lessons is a team of professional working guitarists based in East Sussex. After working in the music industry and the music tuition industry for many years, we got together to write a syllabus based on the skills we think are most necessary to make playing music intuitive and fun. We are all out gigging 2 - 3 times a week, using these skills to get on stage and play with different musicians, and we want to start students out with the information we wish we had known when we started.

Nice relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and James is a very patient teacher! He's more than happy to cater to your musical tastes and needs. Doesn't mind going over the same points if you don't understand and does it without making you feel stupid. Been going 2 years and am amazed at how long my "can play" list of songs is getting. Also loads of on-line lessons to refresh what you've learnt in the 1-2-1's.
Background I am a guitar tutor with 12 years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. I have had the pleasure of teaching in South Africa (where I am originally from), Ireland, and England. Currently I am the Music Teacher and Guitar Tutor at The Drive Preparatory School in Brighton, and I am offering private guitar tutoring in Brighton and online across the U.K. Lesson Structure I have developed a teaching style that focuses on the establishment of six core guitar skills: chords, strumming, scales, picking, fingerstyle, and music theory. By focusing on these skills, my students are able to develop a strong foundation in guitar playing that allows them to continue to grow and improve over time, and to apply these skills to learn how to play their favourite songs. I aim to keep my lessons fun and engaging by incorporating classic and contemporary songs across a variety of genres, including rock, pop, and punk. I believe that learning to play guitar should be an enjoyable experience, and by selecting songs that my students are excited to learn, I am able to keep them motivated and engaged. Education and Experience I studied at the British and Irish Modern Music University in Dublin, and I have my Grade 6 in Guitar from Trinity College London. I am also fully DBS checked. Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to work with students of all ages and backgrounds. Whether teaching a young child who is just starting out or working with a seasoned musician who is looking to take their playing to the next level, I am always able to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each student. Get In Touch If you are interested in taking guitar lessons, please get it touch. I would love to talk about your goals, and help you take the first steps on your journey towards becoming a skilled and confident guitar player.
Strumming along to a favourite song, and creating new music is an amazing feeling - I love being able to develop and share that experience with my students.
I have always been passionate about music, and specifically guitar. I wanted to find ways to make guitar a central feature of my life. Tutoring guitar allows me to share my passion with others, and it also creates the flexibility I need to perform as a musician, and to study music further.
I am an experienced teacher and I am also very patient and flexible in my approach. I understand that people are interested in guitar for a variety of reasons, with a variety of existing skills and aptitudes, and I try to make sure that I am always accommodating of those individual needs and goals.
I generally offer my online lessons over zoom, but I am also able to use any videoconferencing software that is preferred by the student.
I am happy to make any accommodations you may need to feel protected during lessons, including hand sanitizing, and social distancing.
