Hi, my name is Chris and I am a session guitarist based in the UK. In addition to earning a degree in Music Design and Composition at Plymouth University, I have for over 10 years years now, been working as a professional guitarist, songwriter, and tutor. With experiences performing live all over the UK and Germany, my career highlights include working with touring function band The Sparks and writing & performing for The Chris Taylor Band, and Amy Mayes Band. I have had the privilege of working and recording in some of the UK's finest studios such as The Silk Mill, Staffordshire, and have recorded with some fantastic musicians including ex Paul McCartney and John Mayer guitarist Robbie Mcintosh. I've also worked with artists including Amy Mayes with live performances at venues including Ronnie Scotts and Ealing Blues Festival. With this artist, I worked on album that featured the fantastic Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones). I've also had the pleasure of working with the world renowned boogie woogie pianist Ben Waters. I have been teaching now for 10 plus years, covering private lessons on predominantly a one-to-one basis. The Majority of my lessons are held at my studio, but I am however available for home visits. I also teach guitar at St Johns Primary School in Weymouth. All lessons, whether it's guitar, bass, vocals, or Ukulele, can be specifically tailored to suit the needs of the pupil. Whether the pupil is a beginner or advanced, all lessons will be thoroughly prepared with a clear plan in mind. All lessons will include material such as backing tracks, recorded examples, transcriptions, and various resources in order to help with the pupils progression. For an idea of what the lessons can cover, here are a few examples: GUITAR (Electric/Acoustic) /BASS: Technique, Chords & Scales, Improvisation, Rhythmic Control, Music Notation/Theory, Finger-style, Songs/Styles, and much more. VOCALS: I teach singers to help find their own unique voice, and using proper, proven techniques, take their voice to a new level. I will show you the correct way to sing covering a variety of topics including: Stress-free warm-up techniques, diaphragmatic breathing and support, stamina, tongue position and placement, open throat technique, better tone and pitch, increasing range and power, and how to apply to techniques to songs. UKULELE: Technique, Chords & Scales, Songs/Styles. If you want to check out the current projects I'm involved in, then please feel free to head over to: Wedding/Function Band, The Sparks (www.thesparksband.co.uk) Songwriter, the Chris Taylor Band (www.christaylorband.com) Amy Mayes Band (www.amymayes.co.uk)
Knowing I've helped students reach their goals is truly amazing to me! Teaching is a huge passion of mine, and being involved in one's journey whether it's learning a song a guitar that they couldn't do 1 month ago to gaining the confidence to sing on stage, is extremely rewarding to me.
Don't get me wrong, I love performing, but I've always found an educational environment to be more exciting, and always push to making teaching my main focus.
Teaching is my passion, everything else whether it's guitar, or singing, is just a hobby!
With all my students, I always aim to make sure that they have a clear picture of the desired result in their head. My role as a teacher is to make sure I show them the technique I think will help them get there, but always encourage them to experiment. If they get to that desired result, I’m not going to bug them about the technique they’re using. I care more about the finished product than having students with perfect technique that can’t communicate their sound.
I tailor lesson plans for every individual student, providing detailed handout sheets, and audio recordings.
