First I will discuss with the client what the project is and what they want to achieve. I see this as a two way process where hopefully I can provide advice on copy and format. In the end though, the customer has to be satisfied. Throughout the design process I am happy to consult with the client on amendments needed and will send pdf or jpeg proofs as necessary to ensure the project is proceeding correctly.
I use professional design software - Adobe Creative Suite - so once the client is happy I can provide artwork in practically any reasonably common file format.
I would like a detailed brief, any collateral needed (photos, artworks, copy), and a discussion on what their preferences for the job are and what they expect from the final product. Things to consider before starting a project include colour, font style, document size and overall feel of the piece.
I love spending time coming up with new and interesting designs, playing about with ideas and generally exercising my inspiration muscles. I can work from home and be flexible.
After leaving a job at a canine newspaper, some of my clients asked if I would continue to design their ads, I did and have just carried on.
I care about the client being satisfied with the final work. I don't promise to be the cheapest designer, but I do want the customer to be happy and to be able to recommend my services to others. I aim to provide high quality, professional work that does what the client needs.
