Anjum responding to my quote for a therapist and seeking me out when I was 19 probably saved my life. Something in his voice seemed very soothing and reassuring, which made me want to give it a go- a little decision that ended up changing everything. You can be joking around with him one second and be discussing very deep problems the next one, which makes it easier to cope with the unpleasant side of unravelling your demons and brokenness. He is a kind and warm person who really looks at you, and sees you as an individual. He will listen to you very carefully, ask you the appropriate questions, then he will give you thoughtful insights into what is happening with your mind. He won't just highlight the issues, he will teach you how to find out the conflicts in your thinking and how you project your pain into yourself and others. He will not leave you in the dark, with him you are an active part of the process. He will teach you how to best deal with the world and your problems using your natural skills and abilities. Therapy with him can be very dynamic, but he is patient and will let you speak your mind before he tells you what he thinks. His approach is just as innovative, helping you look at a problem from several different sides until you understand it, and then you both find a solution that works. He was able to give me the answers to questions I had had for years, and opened my eyes to questions I never even knew I needed an answer for. But it wasn’t only his competence as a therapist that made me want to work with him, it was also his wisdom as a human- he didn’t let me get lost in all the negative beliefs I had about myself and about the world. We debated various topics, and each time we did I was left with a new sense of understanding the world around me and how my own problems fit into it. Sometimes I got angry, sometimes I was devastated, and often I needed a lot of time to wrap my head around some of the ideas that came up in these debates. Anjum didn’t give up on me. He respected my pain, and validated it. And, over time, he impacted me with his mature and valuable perspective on life that has helped me turn into a more confident, well-adjusted person. For me, working with him allowed me to see a gaping hole that was underneath everything clogging my mind, a profound lack of meaning that was permeating into everything I was feeling and doing. Every thought I had and every decision I was making was driven by subconscious memories, fears, tragic experiences that had made me want to avoid life instead of living it. Even on my best days there was crippling heavy sadness and anger that I had learned to carry with me regardless of whether there were good or bad things happening around me. Some days the fear and sadness seem insurmountable, and most people haven’t had the patience and capacity to grasp my style of doing things. But Anjum understands and has never given up on me. He has never demanded that I change quickly, and has never questioned me when I couldn’t do something first try, nor has he let me be comfortable and settled in my misery. He has kept with me through both my tremendous improvement and my periods of distraction and failure, and because of him being there I have been inspired to think of my own future in that way- that no matter what is happening, I will not give up on trying to change for the better, because even if I keep failing, I will eventually succeed.

I have been having therapy with Anjum for several months now. His knowledge of a wide range of modalities is excellent. In particular, his skills in neuro-psychology have been a huge help in understanding some of the mechanics behind the challenges I have faced. Even in the short time we have worked together so far, he has helped me to identify the key areas of pain and trauma that have been impacting my life for so long. By methodically working through these he has enabled me to free up these deep rooted emotions and process them in the light of day. I would highly recommend Anjum to anyone seeking therapy. His mutli-faceted and non-judgemental approach allows him to navigate even the most sensitive of topics in a compassionate and productive way.
