The Compassionate Canine

The Compassionate Canine was founded by Maria and is a positive reinforcement-based training company, offering in 1-2-1 training sessions and walks. I am based in the new forest but travel to the BCP area multiple times a week so can offer training where and when suits you! I offer a tailor-made plan that is perfect for dogs of all ages that need to improve skills such as recall, reactivity, or calmness on walks among many other skills. The Compassionate Canine – Science-Based, Force-Free Training for You Your Dog! About Me! Hi, I’m Maria, the founder of The Compassionate Canine. I’m a qualified trainer with the IMDT and a reactive dog specialist (DTC certified) who is dedicated to helping owners and their dogs build stronger, more positive relationships. My training approach is rooted in modern, science-backed, force-free methods, ensuring your dog learns in a way that is both effective and ethical. I have a degree in human psychology (2:1, University of Liverpool), which gives me a deep understanding of how behavior is shaped by emotions, learning experiences, and the environment. Originally, I planned to become a clinical psychologist, but my lifelong love for animals led me to combine my knowledge of behaviour with my passion for dogs—helping both owners and their four-legged companions overcome challenges together. In 2025, I will be expanding my qualifications further by studying with the IMDTB (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers & Behaviourists), allowing me to offer even more specialized support for behavioural cases. I also believe in affordable, accessible training, and as I continue to grow my business, I aim to offer reduced-rate and pro-bono services to those in financial difficulty—because every dog deserves the best possible care. My Expertise I specialize in: ✅ Reactivity & Complex Behavioral Issues – Helping dogs who struggle with people, other dogs, or new environments. ✅ Puppy Foundations – Setting your new companion up for lifelong success. ✅ Breed-Specific Enrichment – Ensuring your dog’s natural instincts and needs are met to prevent problem behaviours. ✅ Multi-Dog Households – Creating harmony and reducing tension between dogs. ✅ Sensory & Anxiety-Based Issues – Working with dogs who experience fixations, touch sensitivities, or fear-related behaviours. ✅ Resource Guarding & Impulse Control – Teaching dogs to feel safe and make better choices. My Approach ✔ Force-Free & Ethical – I only use positive reinforcement-based methods, focusing on building trust and confidence in your dog. ✔ Tailored to Your Dog’s Needs – Every dog is unique! I consider their breed, history, emotions, and environment when creating a plan. ✔ Holistic & Multi-Disciplinary – When necessary, I work alongside vets, physiotherapists, and other specialists to ensure your dog’s behaviour is understood from all angles. ✔ Support Beyond Training Sessions – I provide ongoing guidance and resources, so you feel empowered to continue your dog’s progress. Why Choose The Compassionate Canine? Qualified & Experienced Trainer – IMDT Certified Trainer & DTC Reactive Dog Specialist. Committed to Continued Learning – Further studies with the IMDTB in 2025 to enhance my expertise. Passionate About Helping Dogs & Owners – My goal is to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, creating a happy, stress-free life together. Affordable & Accessible – I strive to keep my services reasonably priced and offer discounts for those receiving financial support. Let’s Work Together! If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and results-driven trainer, I’d love to help! Whether you’re struggling with behavioural challenges or just want to give your dog the best start in life, I’m here to support you. Contact me today to discuss your dog’s needs and book a session! Find me online & on social media: https://linktr.ee/thecompassionatecanine A Quick Note About Enquiries & Responses Bark charges professionals to purchase leads, so if I don’t respond to your request, it may be because your listed likelihood of hiring was lower than others. However, if you’re keen to work together, I’d still love to hear from you! You can reach me directly via my website or email: https://linktr.ee/thecompassionatecanine. I primarily work within a 35-minute travel radius of the New Forest because I believe in training dogs in their own environment—where they feel most comfortable and where behavioural challenges typically arise. This ensures training is as effective and relevant as possible. If you’re outside this area, I’m still happy to help! However, I’d recommend a combination of online sessions and in-person visits to make the most of our time together. Prices may vary for clients further afield. Looking forward to helping you and your dog! Pricing I strive to keep my services affordable and accessible, ensuring you receive high-quality, science-backed training at a fair price. 1:1 Training Walks – Starting from £23 per hour Private 1:1 Lessons – Prices vary depending on the number of sessions booked, but I never charge more than £65 per hour. Multi-Session Packages – Committing to a block of sessions with a payment plan brings the cost down to £50 per session, which includes lesson notes and ongoing support outside of sessions. If you have any questions about pricing or would like to discuss a plan that works for you, feel free to get in touch!

What do you love most about your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is helping owners truly understand their dogs—watching that moment when everything clicks, and they see their dog’s behaviour in a new light. Seeing the relief and confidence grow in both the dog and their owner as they learn to communicate effectively is incredibly fulfilling.

I love working with reactive or anxious dogs and showing their owners that, with patience and the right approach, their dog can thrive. Helping a dog go from overwhelmed and frustrated to calm and engaged is an amazing transformation to be a part of.

Every dog is unique, and no two cases are ever the same. I enjoy problem-solving, tailoring my training to each individual, and continuously learning to provide the best possible support. Ultimately, my passion lies in strengthening the bond between dogs and their humans, creating happier, more harmonious lives for both. 🐾✨

What inspired you to start your own business?

The inspiration to start my own business came from my own experience with a rescue dog who struggled to adjust to family life. Watching him battle with fear and prey drive, I knew I had to help him have a better quality of life—one not completely dictated by his fears. This journey sparked my passion for dog training, and the more I learned, the more I became fascinated with the science behind it.

After working in pet care for a London-based company, I realized how much I loved canine care and combined this with my background in psychology to deepen my understanding of animal behavior. Training dogs became not just a passion but a calling. The most rewarding part of my work is helping dogs overcome their challenges and see them begin to truly enjoy life—whether it's going for a walk, meeting new people, or simply feeling more relaxed at home.

This journey led me to The Compassionate Canine, where I could use my expertise to help other dogs and their owners build stronger, more positive relationships. I’m driven by the belief that every dog deserves the chance to live a happy, fulfilling life, and I want to make that a reality for as many dogs and families as possible. 🐾

Why should our clients choose you?

Clients should choose me because I am genuinely empathetic and flexible, allowing me to fully understand your unique needs and tailor my approach to meet them. I believe in building a strong, trust-based relationship with both you and your dog, so you can feel confident that we’re working together towards a common goal.

My priority is to ensure you get the most out of our time together, which is why I pride myself on being accessible and responsive. I’m always here to offer guidance and support, whether it’s during a session or in between, to make sure any challenges that arise are addressed promptly and effectively.

I understand how important it is to feel supported throughout the training process, and I’m committed to providing a personalized, flexible approach that helps you and your dog overcome hurdles and build a stronger, more positive bond. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares and will work closely with you every step of the way, I’m here to help. 🐾

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, I do offer online and remote services, which can be an excellent option if you're unable to meet in person or if you're located outside of my 35-minute travel radius.

Online sessions are perfect for those who need guidance on behavioral issues, training tips, or general advice. These sessions are conducted via video call, allowing us to work through challenges together in real-time, while I provide you with tailored support and solutions.

For clients further afield or with busy schedules, remote sessions are a flexible and convenient way to continue progress without the need for in-person meetings. Whether it’s helping you work through reactivity, basic obedience, or any other behavioral issue, online sessions are an effective way to support you and your dog’s training journey.

In addition to video consultations, I provide notes, resources, and follow-up support to ensure that you can continue your dog’s progress between sessions.

Feel free to reach out to discuss the best option for you and your dog! 🐾
