Welcome to K9 Handling and Training. Key to having a well behaved dog is communication so many dogs owners never take the time to learn how to communicate with their dogs. Understanding body language, eye contact and the use of voice tones is essential in helping the dog to understand what we want from them. Having 30 years experience I have worked with all types of dogs and dealt with all types of behaviours including Lead pulling, Jumping up, Recall, Aggression, Separation Anxiety etc.

Steve from Mad4Mutts came to meet my 3 year old, show cocker Spaniel, Gibson. Gibson has always been wilful but has been getting increasingly worse. Recall was becoming a real problem. Jumping up and getting over excited was also a problem.
Within an hour and a half Steve had managed to start to change these behaviours with simple commands and high value treats.
Steve was kind and patient with Gibson and explained everything in full. He also made it fun. He has given me an information pack to follow and I can honestly say that in a matter of days Gibsons recall has returned. I would highly recommend Mad4Mutts - 11 stars out of 10!
With Well Heeled Hounds, you will have access to the support and guidance you need to enable your new puppy or dog to develop into a beautifully behaved companion. Zoe came to help us with our young labrador when she was about 7 months old. The advice that Zoe brought to us was completely invaluable!!! She helped us to put a stop to inconvenient behaviours, helped us to nail recall and made lead walks a dream. She also answered so many burning questions about what we should and shouldn't do. Zoe is amazing with dogs and they respond to her instantly. Her advice and training has led to us being able to enjoy our pup more whilst keeping her safe and happy. Would recommend to all!

When your pet behaves inappropriately or displays unwanted behaviours, lunging and barking on lead, barking at visitors to your home, behaving aggressively towards other dogs or people for example it can be frustrating, distressing and very upsetting not only for you but for your dog. Understanding why your dog is behaving the way they do is the first step in changing their behaviour.
I work holistically and consider the whole dog when solving problems. I create personalised training programs that consider why the dog is displaying certain behaviours

I had the fortune of meeting Leah while my pup was very young and I needed some extra support with him and quite frankly a break from his continuous chaos that I just hadn't been prepared for. Leah and Reef instantly bonded on our walks together and she remains a steadfast part of his "peoples he loves." Leah comes and sees Reef on a regular basis and I can clearly see that he responds to her beautifully and is always super excited when she arrives and won't come in the house until he has watched her drive away. Her way with him is so beautiful. She is so kind and gentle with him and laughs at his rambunctious ways which some people definately don't 🫣 Leah has a clear understanding of him and his needs and I whole heartedly trust her to look after him as if he were her own. I have no doubt in my mind that if for some reason Leah were unable to spend time with him that he would ridiculously miss her. I only have to say her name and he gets crazy excited jumping up and down and looking out the window.. If its a compassionate, understanding, knowledgable, reliable, patient person you're looking for to help out your pup on the right path i would 100% recommend Leah. She's our best!! Thankyou Leah for everything you have done and continue to do for us.. Much love Nici and Reefy xx

Andy is an absolute superstar! We have worked with Andy over several months, he has been supporting us with our rescue dog Kibibi who was having problems interacting with other dogs. Andy is non-judgmental, very patient and great at training people as well as dogs. He taught us to read Kibibi's body language and have a much more positive relationship with her when out on walks and seeing other dogs. He also trained us in how to use a long-line and we practiced Kibibi's interactions with his own dogs. Would highly recommend and we will most definitely be using Andy again in the future.

When we decided to have our GSD puppy it was essential we put the right foundations in place from the start. Having 3 small children I wanted to ensure the right training methods were in place from the start. As GS puppies need to start training at 8 weeks this is often before group puppy classes. I contacted Kerry and picked the 1:1 training package. Kerry visited in our home and after an initial telephone consultation agreed a training plan that would work for our puppy and our family. Kerry attended our home and provided initial puppy training. The sessions were so beneficial in building my confidence, creating strong partnership bond with our puppy and encouraging good behaviour. Training is delivered in positive reinforcement methods. My puppy was very receptive and enjoyed each of the sessions. He was also exhausted after each 30 minute session. I have recommended Kerry to several friends ad highly recommend the puppy classes also. Definitely worth the 1:1 sessions we have the confidence to continue training and a delightful dog due to the positive reinforcement methods we use. Thanks connected behaviour

The Canine Coach came to help us with recall of our 'Bassador' and we found her help and advice very useful and made total sense. We are now putting into practice her tips and already seeing quicker response. Very good value for money and we have no hesitation in recommending the Canine Coach to anyone. Many thanks.

I wrongly thought Tricia was based in Yorkshire however she still went out of her way to help our 8yr old very stubborn Shihtzu cross spaniel with his toilet problems. Every previous behaviourist kept telling me Max was a nervous dog and had separation anxiety which was why he toileted every time I left the house but never whilst I was home. Tricia quickly explained a technique using a crate and we are now 4 weeks in and Max hasn’t had one accident. Such a logical explanation and Tricia clearly knows her stuff. Thank you so much, honestly, 8yrs in and I’d given up hope. We now also have a happier dog who isn’t being told off everytime I come home! I so wish you lived up North!!

Found the most enormous tick on my dog this week. Having had a £250 vet bill in recent years (not at Charter!) when the head of a tick was left behind after trying to remove it with tweezers, I now have a tick remover which works brilliantly. However, this one was too big for even my biggest tick remover.... so I popped into Charter and the lady on Reception was brilliant. Thank you - you were fab!

The key thing is we love dogs. ALL Dogs! and we will love yours as much as our own, so you can always rest assured with the peace of mind that your dog is well treated, well cared for, well exercised and gets maximum enjoyment from the time spent as a Mad Mutt!
Over the last 25 years, we have kept pretty much every type of mad mutt there is. We've had spaced out Spaniels, Loopy Lurchers, Wild Westie's, Crazy Crosses, Pampered Pure breeds, Raucous Rescue dogs & Mad Mongrels and even though some had severe behavioural problems at the start, we have loved each and every one. At one point we had 4 Wolf Dogs at the same time, a Timberwolf, Saarloos Hybrid, Inuit Wolfdog and a Czech Wolf Dog. Crazy? Probably, but so much fun!
The main driver for starting our business was our passion is to equip owners to create their perfect canine companion, and in so doing prevent as many dogs as possible going to Rescue centres. Many dogs end up in Dog Shelters and Rescue Centres through no fault of their own, purely because they were poorly trained, or not trained at all creating behavioural issues that owners couldn’t cope with. Our motivation is to keep as many dogs out of these centres as possible by providing training, advice, and support that creates happy dogs and happy owners
We are huge advocates of Dr Ian Dunbar's Training Methodology, and our 25 years of boots on the ground experience has taught us what works, and what doesn't. Our passion to be the best at what we do means we are constantly updating our skills and behavioural knowledge through continuous professional development.
We offer home visits within the Torbay area with either male or female trainers as is your preference, and virtual online training consultations wherever you are located, UK and worldwide.
Our personal visits and virtual online sessions are both highly effective and fun. Our aim is to equip you to train your dog with the minimum of time and effort. It's much more rewarding and effective for both owner and dog, and the skills you acquire will be there for you to use at anytime in the future.
We use virtual training wherever possible, but provide PPE and sanitizing materials for both staff and customers.
