Brian has been a listener/counsellor for 20 years, over this time he has realised that talking is so important. He has also recognised that men struggle with this. This has led Brian to specialise in male emotional well-being. Yes Brian does specialise in male mental health, but he also work with women, couples and families too. It is well known that talking helps to defuse difficult feelings, and situations.

Hello, taking the first step towards changing aspects of your life or yourself, and getting help by the means of counselling, can be extremely unnerving! I get that. That's why, as a counsellor and Psychotherapist, you will be treated without judgement; you will receive honesty and unconditional positive regard. I believe that for a person to change significantly, to be able to grow and achieve the life that they want for themselves, they need to be able to be in an environment that encourages that- in other words- a safe, and trusting place, where they are able to be their true selves, not the masked person that we all (at times) pretend to be.

About me, I have worked for over 20 years in Mental Health Services in various settings. In 2017 I trained in EMDR as some of the barriers to recovery for my clients were past traumatic experiences and beliefs that were stuck. The aim is to assist people in recovering from their trauma or difficulties so that they can go on to continue to have lasting improvement and be free from defective limited beliefs.

For many people their only experience of counselling will have been on TV or at the movies but this is often a far cry from reality. We all have times when things are bothering us, when we feel stressful, anxious, when we've lost someone we're close to or when a relationship is not working out as we'd hoped and sometimes, most times in fact, we're able to rationalise things and get on with life perfectly well without counselling but for some people the hill is too steep to climb or the prospect of confronting their issues in the first place is just too daunting. This is when counselling can really help. I practice an interrogative approach to counselling which allows a flexible approach to meet the needs of individuals allowing me to draw on my knowledge of different methods. This includes, talking therapies, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Mindfulness, and relaxation techniques. I work with clients who have issues with anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, PTSD, addiction, lack of self esteem, bereavement and relationship issues. A Registered member of the BACP, Cert Health and Social Care, CBT, along with a Foundation Degree in Counselling. To find out more visit my website orchidcounsellingservices.co.uk
I love a client finishing therapy having achieved the outcome that they want from the therapeutic relationship. The client finishing therapy with the tools to cope with their issues in the future. I enjoy having a therapeutic relationship with my clients so that they have trust in me to guide them to their goals.
Life events led to a career change to counselling. Having spent several years within the emergency services and working with the armed forces I understand the trauma these roles can have. A sound knowledge of adolescence having youth groups both in the church and community over the last 30 years. I have worked within the NHS IAPT, I am continuing this work in triage and brief therapy work in the private sector. My experience also includes having been involved in voluntary work within both adult and children’s hospices and I am CRUSE bereavement trained.
I consider myself to be down to earth, and able to communicate at all levels. No psycho babble, but able to help my clients to understand what is going on for them, why and how to find a solution. My main focus is the client and their needs.
