Tell us more about your professional background

I have a BA in Psychology and an MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. My postgraduate degree fulfils the Level 4 requirement needed to become a counsellor. I specialise in helping people consciously examine their thoughts and behaviours. This will then help them develop healthy day-to-day coping mechanisms. After eight years of working as a therapist, I opened my own counselling practice.

What motivates you in your work?

It’s common for someone with mental health issues to think they’re a reflection of their character. My job is to reassure people who are struggling that they’re not weak or ‘bad.’ It takes incredible strength to fight what your mind tells you. Helping people find that strength is what drives me in my work.

What do you want people to know before they start counselling?

The first thing I want people to know is that there’s no shame in asking for help. The second is that you’re not defined by your problems. People often don’t reach out because they feel as though they’re beyond help. I can’t offer a quick fix. What I can offer is the building blocks of hope and reassurance.
