From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I was met with such warmth & spirituall care and comfort. I have been three times, until my primary care trust pulled the plug on funding.
The first trip I made, I knew there was a hydrotherapy pool but as I'm quadriplegic and bed-bound, I didn't bother to pack trunks as I thought I'd never be able to get in the pool. What I've learnt about the staff @ burrswood is that they do whatever they can to make things happen. I found out the have a stretcher that lowers into the pool in its entirety! It was the first time in 15 years that I'd got back into a pool. The water is always lovely & warm.
The care staff, physios, councellors, & chaplins, all treated me with an incredible amount of kindness, love & respect.
If your thinking of visiting, for whatever reason, I'd heartily recommend it.

I am Marije (Maria) Field and I have advanced clinical training in Transactional Analysis and I continue to work towards MSc and certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) qualifications. We can all lose ourselves in this chaotic world, especially with the increasing demands made on our time. When can we switch off and how does that feel when we have switched off? I work from my private practice in East Sussex with people of all backgrounds and ages. I have many years of experience, especially with teenagers/ adolescents. I offer emotional and psychological support for anxiety, depression, drugs and alcohol abuse, bereavement, and other emotional or stress-related issues. My initial consultation offers a space to explore the presenting issue and to decide on the further course of action.
“No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow”- Alice Walker
I believe we are all worthy and have a right to own our space, the right to make mistakes and the right to grow. We don't have to know everything. I have worked with many people who felt lost, confused in turmoil or who had difficulty in determining where to go next. I am passionate about working with people in a purely authentic, trusting environment. I believe all people are OK, all people have the capacity to think and they can decide their own destiny. And above all, all people can change their decisions which allows someone to grow. To go on a journey with my clients, in a safe space where authenticity is key and judgement is absent, where growth and compassion are paramount, is the best job in the world!
After having worked with clients in organisations and charities such as CGL, Mind and Martlets (bereavement support) I decided I was ready to start myself. Coming from an educational background where I worked mainly with teenagers, I decided I could do more in my own practice.
I now enjoy a practice where the contract is between me and my client, which provides more clarity and cuts out the third party.
I thoroughly love my work and enjoy the flexibility of setting my own hours. If clients prefer to come before they go to work or school then I can negotiate that, or whether they prefer evenings or weekends. This flexibility is key to my practice.
Counselling
Our lives don't follow a neat linear path and sometimes we need help to overcome or understand what preoccupies our mind and why. Having friends or family to talk to can feel too close and there may also be things that you would rather talk through with an independent stranger, someone whose discretion you can trust absolutely.
Counselling offers the chance to talk with a trained professional and work through issues - to return to how we were before.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy tends to be a longer-term process, where you go deeper to discover and treat the cause rather than the symptoms.
A psychotherapist can offer counselling , the reverse may not be possible. You can notice a problem, or a behaviour and suggest how to change that behaviour, however, sometimes it's necessary to look at how that behaviour/ that reaction or that anxiety came to be. What is the purpose or function of that behaviour?
Unusual circumstances, illness, bereavement, divorce can prove to be the last straw. Professional support can change your stance in life, independent of what stage in life you are. All life stages bring their own challenges.
I am a compassionate, experienced therapist and counsellor, who can support you in your journey, in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
