Hello, I'm James. For the past 18 years, I have used talking therapies to support those suffering from depression, trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), experiences of abuse, anxiety, acute stress, bereavement, and relationship concerns. I have delivered counselling to the armed forces community in hospitals and domestic settings, for the NHS Primary Care Services in North Wales to patients referred by mental health teams and the GP, and in private practice both face-to-face and remotely.

I worked with James over a number of weeks.
He provided me with some great tools to support and help me work through the way I was feeling. Tools that are easy to remember and can be used outside of a therapy setting.
You'll automatically feel relaxed and at ease around James, which really helps to build up a trusting therapy relationship.
He has a way of making you understand and make sense of why you are feeling the way you do. I found that once I'd made sense of some of my thought patterns, I was able to feel less anxious and generally happier in myself.

She equipped me with some stratefies to help me move forward. I can honestly say, that within a day or two, I felt like a new person. I will be forever endebted to Karen for her advice and time. Thank you.

Hello, I'm James. I have delivered counselling to the armed forces community in hospitals and domestic settings, for the NHS Primary Care Services in North Wales to patients referred by mental health teams and the GP, and in private practice both face-to-face and remotely. I am trained in counselling and psychotherapy having achieved a distinction at Masters Degree and have attended an array of development courses over the years to ensure I can effectively deliver the right tools and methods. These courses and my experience has enabled me to work successfully with: PTSD & Trauma for Armed/Emergency Services Personnel Survivors of Sexual Abuse Bereavement & Loss Stress Management Mindfulness Couples & Relationships Family Dynamics & Systems I use an Integrative style of counselling which offers you a blend of theoretical models including person-centred, solution focussed, acceptance commitment, CBT, ACT, transactional analysis, and positive psychological therapies. I am a trained teacher of mindfulness, a clinical hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner, and performance coach, which ensures I can offer a range of services to enable my clients to effectively address the difficulties they face, develop practices to build their resilience, and identify goals and strategies to enhance their own life satisfaction personally and professionally. I deliver sessions online via Zoom or WhatsApp, which is an approach I have gained significant experience in due to COVID 19 restrictions impacting the counselling profession considerably. Online work enables me to support people throughout the UK and beyond from the comfort of their own spaces, without them having to worry about travelling. If you are new to online therapy, then you can rest assured that I will support you through the process to ensure that you get the best out of our time together. It’s easy when you know how! I can see a limited number of people face-to-face provided that you can offer evidence of having received the COVID 19 double vaccine. I am an Individual Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and strictly adhere to their framework and guidelines, which can be found at: https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ What can you expect from me? I believe that developing a therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance in counselling, so I bring my whole self into the work we will do and invite you to do the same. Genuineness, honesty, and empathy are key to ensuring that you feel valued, listened to, and supported, which in turn will enable you to make the changes you seek.
Supporting and enabling others is an enormous privilege to me. I deeply enjoy getting to know my clients and seeing them grow over time as they put into practice the effective methods and techniques I offer. Working with clients gives me a wonderful sense of meaning and purpose, which comes from providing the right environment for others to let go of pain and experience greater self-accpetance. I believe that we are a product of our experiences, our thoughts and beliefs, and our habits and behevaiours. If we are not happy in our lives, then we can work towards changing these attrubutes to enable ourselves to flourish.
After I left a 26-year career in the armed forces, I wanted to work for myself using the expertise I had developed supporting soldiers and their families in managing a huge range of personal problems. Private practice as a counselor enables me to work with people all over the country from all walks of life in finding their own resolutions to the difficulties life has presented them with. Why would I want to do anything else?
Supporting others has been my primary professional focus for over 18 years and I have endevoured to keep learning and practicing my craft to ensure that it is of the highest quality and beneficial to those who offer me the privilege of working with them. I have developed a broad evidence-based skillset containing an abundance of tools to help you acheive what you need out of your life. I believe that the right relationship in therapy is essential for growth and healing, so will offer my utmost by bringing a genuineness to each session, leaving you feeling valued and heard. I want nothing more than to help my clients acheive a more fulfilled life and together we will.
I specialise in remote work, having completed specific professional training in online deliveries. I have practiced remote counseling and coaching for over 18 years via telephone and more recently using video chat. I prefer to see your face if possible and can use various platforms, such as WhatsApp, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.
If I'm seeing you face-to-face then COVID-19 restrictions for Wales apply. If we are able to meet at my practice, I am required to check that you have received the vaccinations via an in date COVID pass.
