As well as having a qualification in counselling and therapy, I am also a practicing pharmacist. I combined my long knowledge and skills as a pharmacist with my counselling experience in helping clients with various mental health issues like depression, self-harm, addiction, bereavement, relationship issues amongst other mental health problems. I am registered with the national counselling society and with the general pharmaceutical council. I believe that a combination of knowledge of medications , counselling skills and consultation skills ( which is key in forming rapport with client) is important to helping clients progress towards a positive therapeutic outcome. I love what I do because I am passionate about helping people get better. I have always enjoyed listening to people and supporting them to get better. there is nothing like doing what you enjoy and because i enjoy counselling, I always see as a job that is hardly tedious or challenging
My inspiration for starting counselling and psychotherapy is twofold. firstly as a pharmacist , I love to listen to people who need my help. I also love to help them get better. I started counselling because it involves the same principle. Secondly, as a pharmacist, I have had the opportunity to see and review medications for so many on antidepressants and other medications for various mental health issues. One thing I have found out is that a combination of counselling and psychotherapy with medications, offers better therapeutic outcome for the clients. this unsurprisingly is in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE) guidelines.
I Believe that clients will benefits not just with my vast knowledge in the field, but also because i have the passion and willingness to support them to get better
