How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Most cut and pitch roofs can be converted. Truss roofs are not so easy. Usually new joists need to be fitted between the existing ceiling joists to take the extra load of the new floor. You can have dormer windows( subject to planning) or Velux/roof lights fitted.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Clear existing roof space, fit new floor joists as needed.Install any new stairs as required. Lay new floor after moving or re-routing pipes or services. Build new dormers or trim out for velum/roof lights. Build new partition walls as needed and have electrics and any plumbing first fixed. Insulate the new roof space and plasterboard ready for skim coat plaster or dry lining.
