What can we say about Brendan?

We found ourselves in a very stressful situation after heavy rain caused water to leak into a newly refurbished bedroom. A surveyor from the insurance company got involved, and it was determined that the back wall of our house needed repointing.

Brendan contacted me several times, visited our home to assess the work, and provided a realistic quote. He was incredibly punctual, arriving every day promptly at 9:30 AM, and often stayed late to ensure the work was completed on time. On some days, he even started as early as 8:30 AM to meet deadlines.

Brendan is a hardworking, honest, and tidy professional. Most importantly, he genuinely cares about people and treats the home as if it were his own. He never asked for anything and always checked with me to ensure we were satisfied with his work.

He is a true gentleman, very knowledgeable, and highly professional. We cannot thank him enough for his dedication and effort. Without hesitation, we would recommend Brendan to anyone in need of help.

The repointing of the external kitchen wall was done to an excellent standard. Brendan identified the mortar as lime based and not cement. An important difference which was not mentioned by other builders when viewing the job. Brendan worked very hard and virtually non stop throughout including raking joints that needed further clearing. This also included replacing damaged brickwork. Brendan fixed the two lead valleys (hips) on my roof, after 2 consecutive cowboys ripped me off; the latter taking money for the job only for me only to see the pictures and videos of the work showing that they had made the roof worse than when they had started and should not even be allowed on people's roofs! Brendan our saviour has been a busy bee again on various maintenance items on my own house this time inc. carefully uncovering a radiator pipe under cement so a plumber could remove the radiator, decorating the bathroom/toilet, cleaning our facias/soffits/guttering, so it looks like new now, to painting our fencers, sleepers and there is just too much to mention including making the driveway look like new again! Brendan and his team carried out a complex brickwork job, repointing of the finished work with lime mortar and the repair of lead work on the roof of a small building that was incorrectly fitted by a previous builder/roofer. He also carried out various other repairs to allow correct drainage on our new patio. All of the work has been done to a high standard and we are pleased with the finished job. Brendan is an honest, fair and reliable individual. The site is left tidy and clean at the end of each work day and there is very good communication on how the work is progressing. TJ a true professional, no need to say anymore

PAINTED HOUSE, FRONT, AND BACK, and other repairs (after previous repointing work weeks earlier)

Having previously repointed my walls, which were in a mess, Brendan returned at my request to do the next part of the job.

Re-painted front and back and did a spectacular job, it quite simply looks like a different house.

There was a lot more than simply repainting, also including the restoration of some tiles around the door frame (I was always annoyed that these had been painted over by the previous owners), and fixing some rather alarming holes (massive unfilled strips) found underneath my bedroom windows at the front of the house (the previous job with Brendan was focussed almost entirely round the back, so this hadn't been discovered previously).

In addition, Brendan bricked up a small window in the hallway, and replastered the area on the other side of that (water damage - plaster fell away as he carefully lifted out the old window), and replastered an area of considerable water damage in the bathroom. All the water damage had been caused by an old roof (since replaced).

Brendan also bricked up a boarded-up area where the original back door used to be, which had gone rotten.

The paintwork was extensive, a massive job, also including finer details, looking after guttering, fixing holes, etc. Lots of tidying up.

I'm a little dismayed to see that I don't have an option here to post any photos (before and after), though can see others have done so. I have contacted Bark to ask about this, and this option isn't available to me at this time.

To end this, Brendan was an exceptionally nice guy to have around - great work ethic, always working, doesn't rush, takes pride in his work (and quite rightly), and was particularly tidy.

I'm extremely happy with the work that Brendan has done on my house, in total taking about 5 weeks (2 weeks or so for the first job, 3 weeks for the second).

It's quite clear that he only manages one job at a time, and is not split between tasks at separate houses.

I'll be asking him back again, over the winter, to do some work on the inside of the house, to fix up my hallway (upstairs and downstairs), and replaster the walls and ceiling. Much of it may just need patching up, but he's given me a worst-case-scenario quote that I was quite happy with, in the event it all comes crumbling down upon removing the wallpaper.

I look forward to working with him again in the coming months. More...

Brendan was due to start work on the Monday of the Queens funeral but kindly rearranged his schedule to come to us on the previous Friday and Saturday. We needed several jobs from repointing a garden wall, lifting and relaying a section of paving slabs, making safe wobbly steps and breaking up concrete under our lawn to insert a new rotary line. He gave honest advice and kept us informed throughout the job. His work was excellent and price very reasonable.

Repointing of old mid terrace house. The back wall, in addition to garden slabs where old cement work had been broken down by weeds underneath. Brendan also repaired a broken guttering pipe, and rerouted some of that, upon it becoming evident that an old repair job by someone else had been done with expandable foam, completely blocking it!

Very honest, the price seemed very reasonable. All the way through Brendan was very careful to ensure I was happy with each step before moving on to the next part, at least when I was around. Lots of care and attention, and took a great deal of justified pride in his work. Very tidy, very friendly, really good to work with. Worked none stop. Just Brendan.

Additionally helpful that he has his own scaffolding equipment.

Brendan has also quoted me for the next job, which also seems reasonable, for the replacement of a small window, and to completely clean up and re-paint the whole house, front and back - three coats. The reporting he's done looks great, but now it's time to get the rest done, and it would have been insane of me to ask anyone else to do that next bit of work for me!!
