The Atelier Brown is an exciting new design studio based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. We have a portfolio of diverse projects serving the Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, London and Essex area; comprising a mix of domestic extensions, alterations and new-builds, as well as heritage and community projects. We also offer interior design services. We pride ourselves on being able to offer our clients the dynamism and drive of a young up-and-coming practice, with the expertise of a team who boast significant architectural experience. Our team have a depth of experience having worked for a number of prominent practices across the country previously. We bring value to any project through creative-thinking, a sensitive and considered approach to place-making and an extensive knowledge of how buildings are built in the best way financially, qualitatively and sustainably. Rita is the studio's founder, having started the company in 2018. She was driven by a desire to break-free of some of the constraints of working in more established practices; allowing her natural design flair and ambition to thrive in her own design studio. Rita has worked previously in practice, but most recently held a senior position within the design team for a high-end house builder in Hertfordshire. Rita is comfortable working with demanding clients, constantly striving to achieve maximum quality in all her work. Rita’s passion is in the detail; whether it be a bespoke piece of joinery designed to compliment a space, or an external detail designed to complete a beautiful façade. Rita brings a pragmatic attitude to all of her work, and diligently works to any scale of client budget. Rita works alongside a team of experienced Architects. They bring experience from working in some major practices in London, Manchester and Cambridge, and offer a combination of creativity and artistic design flair with a strong grounding in technical detailing. The team also are well-versed with the rigours of management of projects through to completion on site. We advocate a sensitivity to place, valuing architectural history and contextual analysis when creating new buildings and places. The studio are also driven by the more contemporary demands in architectural projects such as sustainability and inclusivity.

I started the business in 2018 after becoming a mother for the first time. I was driven by a desire to break-free of some of the constraints of working in more established practices; allowing my natural design flair to thrive in my own design studio, balancing this with the rigours of full-time motherhood.
