Life in Progress Coaching

I’ve been a professional Career and Executive coach now for over twenty years, and have coached over a thousand professionals. Here’s how I got here. As VP of Career Services at a Philadelphia area college, I gained the skills and insights that led me to open a career coaching practice. I named my practice Life in Progress because I believe we’re always evolving and making new discoveries. There’s no “one size fits all” and we never stop growing. Prior to that, I had a rewarding 20 years in management and executive roles in business and not-for-profit organizations. I’ve worked in educational publishing, geospatial technology, and medical malpractice consulting. I also have an MBA, although, as I like to say “Not so much as it affects my judgment”. My most rich and effective sources of wisdom are my family. I’ve been married for over thirty years to my college sweetheart, and I’m Dad to two wonderful children, now adults. They teach me, daily, what it means to love and be loved, and inspire me to be the best version of myself I can be. For fun, I love to go fly fishing, take a long, leisurely walk in the woods, have strong coffee in the morning, and laugh out loud to most British humor. And I’m absolutely a dog guy. My gentle and goofy hound dog, Penny, is my daily companion, and likes to greet my coaching clients whenever she’s not busy sleeping. I’m blessed to have work, and a family I love. I’m very grateful for those gifts. Credentials I received my formal coaching training from COACHU, the oldest and most established coach training program in the world. I am certified by the ICF (International Coaching Federation) as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC). I am also CELDC certified (Certified Executive and Leadership Development Coach). I’ve been mentored by a Master coach, and I have conducted over 2,000 hours of coaching to help people discover their life’s purpose. I’m a qualified administrator (and admitted geek) of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator the Strong Interest Inventory, and the EQi 2.0 Emotional Intelligence Assessment. Finally, I have one more very special professional and personal interest concerning Employment and Careers for Individuals with High Functioning Autism (HFA). Part of my practice is devoted to career coaching neurodiverse clients, including those adults with autism . My interest began personally. I am the parent of a brilliant, funny adult son who also is autistic. He graduated from college with a degree in IT, and now also has a rewarding career. I experienced his challenges in finding meaningful work and saw how he, and others, struggled with the social demands of job-seeking. While working in college administration. I realized then that more neurodiverse students were coming to college than ever before. These young people were academically capable and possessed unique skills and talents. They yearned for opportunities to utilize their gifts in rewarding work. Just like everyone else. I greatly enjoy working with neurodiverse adults and their families. If you are or know a young adult with Autism or other ‘invisible’ disability struggling to find meaningful employment, I would be happy to have a conversation.

What do you love most about your job?

When I first worked with a career coach, many years ago, I made a successful career transition. But more importantly, I felt like I got my life back! I love seeing my clients have that experience. That's my favorite thing about my work.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Two things:
1. I love helping people with their careers. I've done it instinctively throughout my working life, even when I was NOT a coach!
2. I am a Dad to an adult son with Autism. That inspired me to include working with autistic adults, too.

Why should our clients choose you?

I think my clients find that one of my better assets is my ability to intuit challenges, and articulate them, even when my clients can't find the words. I also like to laugh, and use plain-talk, including the occasional cuss word! My clients have told me they appreciate that. Finally, I have lived a little: I've worked as an executive in private industry, not-for-profit, and higher education. I've relocated for work, managed people, grown a career (several times!) and survived the loss of a job. I've also raised kids, dealt with stress and anxiety, and overcome health challenges. While every person's experience is unique to them, my clients have told me that my breath of experience is frequently instructive to them, and it's certainly a source of empathy for me. Oh, and I LOVE what I do!

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Most of my coaching is done via ZOOM, particularly since COVID. If you are local (I'm in Wayne, PA) I am happy to meet at my office in my home.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I did not meet face-to-face with clients during Covid-19, and exclusively used ZOOM. Now I do have a couple of clients I meet with F2F, but most are still by ZOOM.
