I recently moved to a new BK apartment and now have a wonderful medium sized outdoor terrace space. I hired Helena to create a low maintenance, homely container garden. Due to building regulations, each planter can not exceed 40 lbs. I do not have an outdoor water source on the terrace itself. And I have a black thumb. Helena designed a garden that met my weight restrictions and successfully connected a hose to my modern bathroom faucet. The hose has turned out to be such a bonus not only to effortlessly water the plants, it helps with having a dog, a busy urban life and an outdoor space in general! I love her plant choices and design aesthetic and as a novice gardener, I’m really looking forward to having Helena come back in the fall to add touches of more greenery. Easy to work with, accommodating with schedule changes and fun to have around, I highly recommend Helena for all your indoor and outdoor plant and gardening needs.

I can’t say enough about how happy I am with the work Sarah did for me. The small backyard of my Brooklyn townhouse was a mess: chain link fence, ugly concrete patio, wildly overgrown garden (90% weeds), and a rusty steel door where water flooded into my basement every time it rained. I felt like I was lucky to have outdoor space, but I never spent any time there. Sarah was one of four landscape designers I spoke to about my project. I wanted a new patio with room for a table and chairs, a new fence that afforded more privacy than the chain link, a basement that didn’t flood, and most of all a garden full of year-round color and texture that I would enjoy spending time in. One of the designers came in with project that was more than twice my budget. Another cut a lot of corners to stay within my budget—her plans called for a new fence on once side of the garden, but not the other. The third came up with a modern design that really didn’t match my century old townhouse—and it included two different seating areas for a postage-stamp sized yard. Sera, on the other hand, designed a beautiful space that accomplished every one of my objectives and delivered it on time and within my budget: a wonderful cobblestone patio in an intersecting circular design, new wooden fencing to cover the chain link (on both sides!) and a beautiful garden with magnolia and dogwood trees, complete with a programmable irrigation system. In addition to designing the garden, Sarah was onsite to oversee the patio and fencing installation, and came back a few weeks after the planting (during a heat wave in late July) to make sure the plants were doing okay. She even made sure I knew how to prune each plant in the fall and prepare the garden for winter. Sarah has a real artist’s sensibility, and it really shows in the care she took with my project.
