What are the benefits of online Therapy?

The great thing about online therapy is that it’s so accessible. If you live in a rural area, have physical limitations or a hectic work schedule, or may not feel comfortable leaving the house, then travelling to your therapist may be an extra burden. With online therapy, you can get the help you need from anywhere in the world. You might be wondering how to choose the right online therapist without ever meeting them in person. With Bark, you can browse hundreds of potential therapists to find the right match. Check out their Bark profiles, websites, and customer reviews to help you make a decision.

How does online Therapy work?

Online therapy is very much like traditional therapy, the only real difference is that it takes place through email, telephone, video call, or even text messages. Like traditional therapy, your online therapist will help you to overcome difficult emotions and challenging life circumstances by listening and helping you to develop coping strategies. Whichever type of mental health help you need, Bark has hundreds of trusted online therapy professionals ready to support you in a broad range of specialisms. Just tell us what you need and we’ll put you in touch with the best online therapists.

How much do Therapists cost?

This will vary according to the level of experience and training that the therapist holds.

This will depend on where you live, what level of training your therapist has and what they specialise in (whether they are a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist) and also how many years of working experience they have.

Your professional therapist will be able to advise you on the full range of therapies available and will be able to help you select the best one to suit your needs. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a trusted therapist today.

What should I look for in a Therapist?

Each route has its own leading body. For counselling it is the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), for psychotherapy, it is the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), for CBT it is the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and for clinical or counselling psychology it is the British Psychological Society (BPS). Each of these bodies accredits courses so make sure to choose an accredited therapist.

Professional counsellor training takes three to five years and can be a diploma or degree level. Qualification requires a minimum number of client hours acquired through a work placement.

You may also want to ask for testimonials of their recent work. You could also look at their profile page on Bark and Bark can show you reviews from past customers who have used their therapy.

What are the benefits of Therapy?

Therapy has repeatedly and consistently helped patients with a whole host of issues. It can help with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. Or it can help with an upsetting physical health condition such as infertility, a difficult life event such as a bereavement or a relationship breakdown. It can also be used to tackle difficult emotions such as low self-esteem, anger or sexual identity issues. Therapists also offer couples therapy. Therapists can also help with anxiety issues deriving from the coronavirus.

How do I find the right Therapist?

You need to devote some time to finding the right therapist as the connection you have with your therapist is essential. You need someone who you can trust, someone you feel comfortable talking to about difficult subjects and intimate secrets, someone who will be a partner in your recovery. Therapy will not be effective unless you have this bond, so take some time in the beginning to find the right person.

It is worth talking to a few potential therapists and asking questions. Therapists also have special areas of focus, such as depression or eating disorders. For some issues, such as trauma or PTSD, seeing a specialist is absolutely essential.

What do you love most about your job?

I love providing a confidential space where my clients - sometimes for the first time ever - feel listened too and understood. Where they can freely express themselves and find confidence to talk about difficult issues and find resolution through conversation. I love seeing people grow and develop. Helping them find new coping skills, and make changes that they have previously thought were impossible.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My own marriage went through difficult times and eventually ended very amicably thanks to the relationship counselling we had which helped us put our differences in perspective and maintain a very healthy co-parenting relationship by putting our children's needs before our own. I wanted to provide this service for others so trained and qualified as a relationship therapist to support people before, during and after divorce.

Why should our clients choose you?

One of the concerns I had after I had had a period of counselling was that, although I had developed a good understanding of why I felt the way I did and did what I did I hadn't really been given the tools to move my life forward beyond the divorce. It is really important to me that my clients gain insight and knowledge of how they came to be where they are right now but also have the opportunity to explore what's next and how to get there so I also trained as a life coach. Coaching is a great way to make changes when the counselling has been successful and the client is ready for a fresh start. Sometimes counselling is enough on its own as is coaching, but the two combined make for a very holistic experience.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I work on Zoom, Facetime or Whatsapp video. Although physically not in the same place I have not found any difference or difficulty in being able to build raport with clients and create a strong therapeutic relationship.
Working remotely also gives the advantage of seeing couples at the same time when they are physically in different places!

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I don’t see face to face clients. Working remotely works just as well as being in the same room.

I had been in an extremely bad place for just over 14 years. I wasn't living, I was waiting to die. I came close many times, just wishing it was over. Doctor after doctor, same generic diagnosis again and again. Here's some tablets etc. The usual. Years past but nothing got better. I don't want to go anymore into it. Then I met Vicky. It was one of those thing's when you know you connect. Then it was the fact it actually felt she listened. She didn't respond with what a course told or suggested she had too. She responded to me. Where I was. Who I was at that time. Something no NHS doctor etc ever did as they were just waiting for the next patient, then the next etc. The time she gave me was mine and it wasn't rushed or wasted. Yes I had some bad day's, but only towards the end did I realise it was actually needed. It was part of the mending, my journey. Vicky led me to somewhere I didn't expect when I asked her for help. I wanted, needed help as I was at my end. She didn't just pull me back from the edge, she gave me value and helped me realise who I actually am. I turn 50 soon and I had never truly understood who I am. I do now. Vicky listened, she didn't tell me I had to do this or that. She guided me. All the Doctors I have seen and met up until I met Vicky, did not get who I actually was or what caused my actual symptoms etc. Not one. Vicky saw something in me none of the rest did. Something I had never known myself. She carried me whilst l struggled, while I tried to understand, whilst I climbed out of my hell. A hell which I honestly thought was going to consume me whole. Vicky gave me a new beginning. A reason to live. The strength I needed and brought me to what actually caused my symptoms/pain. This is not only a review for Vicky, it is to say thank you to her. She didn't just help me, she gave me back something I had lost along time ago. My soul. Thank you.

I found Rachel on bark when looking for a way to cure my alcohol habit. Booked a consultation and went from there. She was very patient, listing to my outpourings, as difficult as it was to do and she helped me on my path, always listening and always thoughtful and kind in her reply. I found her easy to trust and a therapist who I cannot recommend enough. I nolonger drink during the week and drink less at weekends than I used to, which was what I was aiming for from the start. Book a consultation, you will not look back.

Rachel was recommended to me by a friend who had also reached out to Rachel. From my very first session, I instantly felt comfortable to open up and express how I was feeling. Rachel radiates positivity and never fails to uplift my mood. She has a very peaceful and soothing aura about her and is such a genuine lady. Not only is Rachel amazing at what she does, she has also introduced me to many useful coping mechanisms. Rachel is very informative, she has recommended some amazing books, blogs, articles, events and links that have been very helpful to me. I’ll always be grateful for the support and kindness Rachel has shown me. Thank you xx
