Telehealth therapy now available! As more and more people with symptoms seek treatment, the coronavirus could spread rapidly in healthcare settings. Telehealth allows clients to have access to therapy without having to travel and meet in person, thereby reducing the risks of exposure and spread. I apologize for any more inconvenience that this may cause. Talk to someone you can trust!

I have been a marriage and family therapist for over 24 years. With a Master in Divinity, a concentration in Pastoral Counseling, and a PhD in Theology, a concentration in Marriage and Family counseling. I see couples and individuals with a focus on "divorce proofing" their marriage. Married with a blended family of seven children, both my wife and I manage an active schedule with strong focus on our faith, each other, and our children.
If you're struggling in a relationship, with a particular issue, or just don't feel like yourself anymore, therapy may be right for you. Here you'll find a relaxed and empathetic environment where you can safely identify and explore those issues that may be getting in the way of you experiencing a more fulfilling life or relationship. My goal is to not merely treat the symptom, but help you understand the underlying cause of it. So for instance, not just minimize the behavioral display of anger, anxiety or depression, or whatever the concern is, but help you understand why you're so prone to experiencing it. The result is that you'll become much more empowered to live and feel the way you want. And, you'll inevitably become more confident in dealing with your present concerns in a way that will make lasting positive change. The reality is that what you’re experiencing is a result of your past. If you're a couple, it involves both your pasts. It's what we call 'baggage'. That’s why therapy involves not only developing healthy emotional management techniques to address the behavioral concern, but also the exploration of how the past has in effect created the present situation. Session work then entails exploring your personality, interpersonal style, parental relationships, childhood events, traumatic experiences, emotional distress, romantic relationships, coping mechanisms, and elements of identity formation. If you want to become more self-aware, increase your potential to live life to the fullest or experience higher levels of relational connection and intimacy, give me a call. Appointments can be made for both day or evening.
I feel one of the greatest rewards I receive as a therapist is when a client tells me at the next session that they received a breakthrough in the last session. It doesn't happen in every session, but it happens frequently, and that's the goal - because without breaking through their typical thinking or behavioral paradigm, they're apt to repeat the undesired characteristics of behavior that they're trying to change. Any breakthrough promotes hope in the possibility of long term effective therapy.
I was a pastoral counselor for nearly 20 years and really liked helping people figure things out so decided to enter counseling full time.
I do counseling of all types: mood disorders, relationship concerns, esteem issues, vocational interests, etc. But I would say my specialty is in helping couples become closer, helping men deal with anger management and helping women experiencing mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, anger, etc.
My BA in Business was pursued at Grand Valley State University and my MA in Counseling at Ashland Theological Seminary. In my internships I served as a group facilitator for Domestic Violence offenders at Dominion Family Services. I also developed an anger management group program for Life Challenge in Detroit. I have been trained in the PREPARE/ENRICH marital and premarital inventories and also have training in social anxiety, anger management and domestic violence. I also have more than 20 years experience as a pastoral counselor within the church setting.
