Body Basics Fitness is a small independent personal training studio located in the beautiful Watchung mountains of Warren, New Jersey. Be it for weight loss, managing chronic tightness or pain, or improving your golf body, we help people using strategic exercise solutions and coaching to help them transform their lives through better health. Everyone gets stuck sometimes. We help people get unstuck so that they can manage their health while focusing on what's important to them, be it their careers, raising their families, or enjoying their golden years. More often then not our clients find themselves feeling very frustrated as a result of declining health, challenges with sleep, stress overload, and weight gain; anywhere from ten to a hundred pounds. These individuals know how to lose weight. In fact, they've done it many times, but only to have the weight return, plus a few pounds added on. They're frustrated and finally at the point where they want and need guidance. They are actively looking to work with a fitness professional who can help them achieve their fitness goals long term. At Body Basics Fitness we are well versed in helping people with medical challenges. Many of our clients come to us after they have been released from their chiropractor or physical therapist and we help them transition back to a dynamic and active life. We have helped clients post: hip replacement surgery, rotator cuff surgery, gastric surgery, liver transplant, heart attack, and many other ailments and injuries. Your journey begins with a Success Session where we listen and gather information, are compassionate and not judging so that we can get a 30,000 foot view of what the challenges are, so we can help. This might surprise you, but our ultimate goal for our clients is to have them be totally independent and train themselves. This can take anywhere from three months to a year. More often than not, they come back periodically for assessments and new strategies, but they no longer need us to push them to do what they can do for themselves. A big part of what we do is to identify and remove the limiting factors that hold people back. To help them create new habits that motivate them to transform themselves.
In a one-on-one relationship, I help my clients focus on the simple tasks that when practiced with consistency are proven to work. I take a two-phase approach. One aspect is teaching them what they need to know about soft tissue, stretching, movement preparation, training techniques, and everything else necessary to help them take control of their training. The second aspect is all about coaching. In order to sustain long-term gains, you must create new habits around specific goals. Coaching is all about transforming their thought process.
Train your brain and your body will follow. It's all about education and personal development.
Adding value to human life. I love to see the many small "a-ha" moments when people "get it". Focus on the journey of everyday activities and you will eventually travel far beyond your expectations.
That's a very long story, but the short version is this. I was a corporate guy who fell into declining health from the long hours and stress of my work. I was very fortunate in that I was able to make some changes before I got really sick. In addition, I was 30lbs overweight. I joined a gym and found a new lease on life.
Just six months later I decided to become a personal trainer and do that part-time in the early morning. I soon realized that being a trainer and helping people was more gratifying than my corporate job. Over a nine-year period I studied and worked hard to become a true fitness professional. I launched Body Basics Fitness as a part-time business and eventually walked away from the corporate world. It's been another nine years and I've never looked back with a moment of regret.
I have a message that came out of my own mess. I know what it feels like to have clothes in your closet that don't fit, to not want to step on a scale or look in a mirror. I've been through the struggle that many people face. But I also know what it feels like to channel your pain into progress and rise above it.
I think it's important to educate people and I am a good teacher. I don't want people to think that they are going to have to work with me forever. I want to teach people how to manage their health so that they can be their own champion. Personal training is so much bigger than learning how to eat and exercise to lose weight and get fit because the impact of optimal health spills over into everything that we do.
