I have worked with people of every age, background, and physical status, and have helped each person overcome their obstacles and achieve their fitness goals. I emphasize core strength and functional fitness, both of which produce long-lasting fitness and a widely-gauged ability to do any activity in life a person chooses; at the same time, these emphases provide a foundation for success in individual goals such as sport-specific training, overcoming a physical/medical condition or injury, or simply losing weight. Inotherwords, you need core strength in order to succeed in any other kind of strength and prevent injury along the way.

How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

To begin with, I ask many questions about a client’s past history including sports, health issues, family history and genetics, as well as their current lifestyle, to determine a realistic path forward. Then I write a plan for exercise and nutrition and identify other changes that can be made to improve chances for success (i.e., mindset, self-belief, habits, sleep, stressors). Then I walk beside my client through this programmed path with its changes and growth, and I foster confidence in adapting to a new lifestyle of fitness and health, and mastery of the goals the client seeks to accomplish.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

The secret to getting the body of your dreams is 1) Faith in yourself, 2) Commitment to the goal, 3) Consistent effort, 4) Willingness to learn and adapt, and 5) Discipline and Respect for your body!

What do you love most about your job?

I love love love working with people of all ages, backgrounds, conditioning, challenges, and goals. Training people to take charge of their health and wellness is a huge passion of mine, and it is so rewarding to see someone not only achieve their goals, but to acquire competence and confidence in mastering their body—which is a HUGE part of mastering one’s life—and I love making such an impact in this person’s life for good.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I never thought I could be an athlete. I grew up with asthma and migraines and was told I could never run or exert myself. I had to sit on the bench all day in Field Day in 6th grade and watch everyone else compete and play and run around. I lived in Hawaii for a brief time in 2005, and it was there that I learned to swim. I ended up taking a masters class to learn better, and three days later I did my first triathlon. To my surprise, I came in fifth in the women’s division and got my name in the newspaper! This was a shining, redefining moment for me, as I realized that I am an athlete. And if I can do this with the limitations I thought I had, anybody can do this. And I wanted to be a part of that discovery. The next month, I got my first personal training certification and started my business shortly thereafter.

Why should our clients choose you?

I think clients should choose me because I am empathetic, and I can feel their struggles and their desire to succeed. And I have the knowledge and the critical thinking, and the intuition to see how best to proceed each and every session. I have the experience of 18 years of having my own business, and working with people of all kinds, with all goals, and all circumstances; and I have such a passion for watching people grow and succeed, and do things they might never have dreamed possible for themselves.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can provide live online or remote services via Zoom. I train people live during the Zoom session, meaning I’m with a person virtually as they walk through a workout I’ve written for them. I’m watching their form, breathing, stance, and movement patterns for safety and correctness, and I offer feedback and encouragement throughout each exercise. Then we would discuss plans for getting proper nutrition/eating and discuss details for our next virtual training session and any workouts the client may do independently until I meet with them again online.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

The gym I worked at shut down during Covid and I was laid off. I began training folks in their homes or at outdoor open spaces, having discussed their wishes and concerns regarding their need for safety. If they required me to wear a mask, I would do so. We discussed washing hands after each session and just being mindful of our surroundings; sometimes a client would have to cancel because sick family members had been nearby. I left the decisions to each client as to what they required in order to feel comfortable having me train them.
