I think what makes a great website is a site that is clean, user friendly and functional. When design is a higher priority over usability, performance can suffer. Ultimately we want to engage users, educate and hopefully earn their business or get the order. If a visitor has to work too hard to find what they're looking for they'll move on. For me as a designer and business owner it must be professional looking and functional.
I would start with the basics. Do you have a domain name? Do you have hosting set up yet? Is there a specific platform you want used, such as WordPress, or are you open to finding the best solution that meets your primary goals? I would also ask about the objectives or goals the client has.... is this for informational only? Will we sell products? Are we trying to generate and capture leads? I've been an independent business owner my whole life. As a musician, I found myself gravitating towards the engineering side of recording music. At tweanty-one I moved out to Nashville, TN and worked as a recording engineer for 15 years. In 1998 I built my first website for a music company client of mine. This turned into another passion so I began building websites on the side. Flash forward 20 years later I've continued to learn and adapt to the responsive world we live in. I also own a couple e-commerce businesses, one being a marine supply store I started up 15 years ago (and still operate today) and the other a marine and industrial ladder business. These businesses are very cyclical to the summer/boating months. I started up Be Visible Web Design & Marketing as a way to fill in this time and help others with the knowledge and experience I've accumulated over 20 years. Plus, it's also something I really enjoy doing.
I've accumulated a lot of knowledge over the years about operating a business on the internet (good and the bad). I think I have a unique perspective being a online operator myself which allows me to execute client projects that actually perform. My goal is always to listen first, brainstorm ideas, then execute the plan and strategies we agree on. I'm a hard worker and I approach business in a professional manner. You should also choose me because I'm a really nice guy with a wife and kid. I work my tail off, as most of us do, to take care of my family.
