I lost my daughter 2 years ago. I began seeing Tamera and she was amazing. She helped me get thru the immediate grieving and how to manage all of the emotions that came with my loss. I truly believe if I would not have seen Tamera I would not be the function person I am today. I highly recommend Tamera you'll be in good hands.

Lovely and very kind lady, she's great if you prefer people who don't sit behind a computer and just read questions off a script. She talks from her experiences and she does have a lot. I can just tell she actually cares. I have been seeing her for a while and she has greatly helped me (and I am sure many others). She's just overall a great person and therapist, really nothing negative I could say about her.
Our community mental health agency brings the best of Western-and Eastern approaches to wellness fromn a "whole person" holistic concept. You and I are not just tissue and disease to be medicated according to the "disease model" as practiced by traditional doctors. The "disease model" purports that prescription medicines and the treatment of symptoms (surpressing disease) is wellness. In fact, research debunks this approach and recognizes this approach has led to unnecessary side effects with dependency and addiction as its consequences. The holistic cognitive behavioral approach acknowledges correctly the need to treat "root causes" and this by eliminating the root causation, we eliminate all of the expressions of the dysfunction throughout the body, thus treating the whole person, emotions, body, and mind, resulting in true wellness.
What I love most about my job is its not a job, but a calling to be a compassionate, highly-skilled, empathetic healer. Nothing satisfies me more than to see the aah-hah moment occur when a person awakens to learn of their real inner power and strength becomes their new reality. The person recognizes they have a lot more control than they realized. When the client reports benefitting from the cognitive-behavioral holistic option to use non-drug therapeutic interventions that have worked to improve people's lives for hundreds of years, they feel empowered and amazingly hopeful. What was once believed to be a diagnosis that traditionally was only treated by prescription drugs, becomes a manageable moment of never-ending happiness to learn how scientists all over the world have been using non-drug therapeutic protocols that work to relieve and frequently eliminate their frustrating and unpredictable journey with mental illness.
Since age 14, it was my dream to help communities and diverse populations suffering from the effects of genetically-inherited predispositions which respond very negatively to life stressors, sometimes even in minimal doses. I envisioned a community mental health clinic that did not look like a clinic, but like a place of coming home to wellness. I wanted art to be everywhere and the decorations to be warm and peacefully tranquil. I wanted the music to be serenely comforting, gentle, and quietly relaxing the mind. I wanted an atmosphere of highly trained therapists whose training included best-practices and very responsive to the struggles of persons affected by mental health issues. Most of all, I wanted an atmosphere of total wellness in which our focus was not just on the illness but the effects the illness has in distorting opportunities which have negative effects upon the client's self-image, self-worth, and self-esteem. There were no clinics like this, that focused on the entire human beings life experience.
With over 44 years of counseling experience, Dr. Barnes consistently engages in best-practices research to bring to the culturally diverse clients of BHCTI an empowering psychoeducational experience in which the client will be infused with the knowledge of wellness which embraces mind, body, spirit, emotions, that results in higher life satisfaction than traditional approaches to mental health which frequently lead to a never-ending cycle of dependency. It is BHCTI's goal to empower its clients so THEY can take control of their lives, increasing life satisfaction and reduce the impact of having a psychological struggle or illnesses and the associated distorted ways of thinking which contribute failed counseling interventions.
Due to the Pandemic, we have, for the safety of our clients and staff, we now provide therapy via ZOOM, which our clients love!
Due to the Pandemic, we now, for the safety of our clients and staff, provide 90% of therapy via ZOOM, which our clients love! All staff is required to socially distance themselves from others, wear masks, and to wear gloves to avoid any physical contact with others. They spray down their clothes with a COVID-19-Sensitive disinfectant and are required to wear eyewear in any public setting. On rare occasions we have clients come to the office, no more than 4-5 people are allowed in the building at any given time. The building, prior to visits is pre-sanitized (doorknobs, light switches, faucets, and bathroom fixtures, entrance carpet, chairs, furniture, front-desk counters, and the air conditioning system). All these steps are taken out of an abundance of precautions and in recognition of the potential lethality of acquiring a COVID-19 infection. We have converted all our required documentation to Fillable Forms which we email to clients to be emailed back to us to further minimize physical contact. We make ZOOM Sessions easy by making it easy for clients to connect to us regardless of what device they are using (phone, computer, laptop, or tablet).
