You may not be aware of the level of IRS scrutiny and examination that the IRS performs on everyone, before authorizing a person such as myself, to be able to e-file your tax return. I was fingerprinted, my background examined with a clean record, current on taxes, credit check, and other things. I also had to be screened to perform New York State and New York City tax returns to receive an e-file PIN. NY has its own requirements.

I have used a variety of sources to obtain leads for persons needing tax and bookkeeping services. BARK is one such service and to obtain your name, email address and phone number, the cost is as low as $16 and as high as $84. BARK seems to be arbitrary at setting the price of a referral.

Working with Kevin from Phlotic was such a pleasure! I had to file my late mother's final tax return, which is an emotional task, and I had been dreading it. When I finally reached out to find a professional I was worried it was late in the tax season to find someone willing to take me on. Kevin was so responsive to my Thumbtack inquiry that he immediately called me, and assured me this was doable. He provided the Phlotic portal to submit and track documents, and even with a delay on my end of finding one last missing form, he was able to process the final return immediately! It took a huge weight off of my shoulder and I felt so comfortable and supported all along. I wasn't sure what working with an out of (my) state tax preparer would be like, but thanks to his fantastic service I am likely to return next year for our own family's tax preparation as well!
