I have been a professional Math and Science tutor since 2017. Since then, I have helped students in Calculus, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, and SAT/ACT prep. My methodology is to give students a deep understanding of the material which does not rely on memorization, allowing them to understand and solve problems they have never encountered before. I am currently a Junior studying Applied Math at Columbia University.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in psychology, I worked in a Charter School as an Integrated Co-Teacher for students in general and special education programs. Additionally, I have served as a math, writing, reading and college preparation tutor for students’ ages five through 17 both in a classroom and remotely. In addition to planning comprehensive lessons and delivering differentiated instruction based on students' needs, I am able to use quantitative and qualitative data to quickly adapt my practice to augment progress.

I am THRILLED with the quality, service and results of the Tutor Shack! Josh Kutchai and his team are passionate about helping students reach their full potential, and are truly kind, caring, wonderful human beings. They went above and beyond, working wonders to accommodate our family’s needs. They take the time to identify your child’s strengths and areas for development, and match them with the right tutor - not only for skills fit but also for personality fit. My son connected and listened to his tutors Ener and Mary, who both held him accountable in a supportive way. In under 8 weeks, he went into the SAT confidently and raised his score significantly. LOVE and HIGHLY recommend the Tutor Shack!!!
I love working with children so when my younger child was ready, I returned to volunteering and substituting in school. After some time, I started Teddy Tutoring so I could connect individually with my students, many of whom needed a little extra help after the day was over. Now I work with students in different time zones and we find ways to laugh and learn together thanks to technology! I’m accessible to my families and prioritize students’ changing needs.
I love talking to children! I learn new perspectives and new ideas from them regularly. In some situations we have developed such trust that they are able to share a fear or a worry. I can pass that on to a parent and we can help them move through a difficult time together rather than get stuck.
Working individually with children is completely different from the classroom setting. I’m not bound by a specific methodology so we can explore and learn in the student’s best way. Customizing a lesson can be the difference between learning something or becoming lost and I knew I could help a child learn.
I’m accessible and flexible with respect to materials-we WILL find something that works; I find that my students like me-I’ve had some tough cookies but we find our way; lastly, I’ve got a lot of experience and I think that’s important - teaching and tutoring require creativity, patience, humor, and some quick thinking.
Right now I work primarily online. I use Zoom but if you prefer we can Skype or FaceTime. I have a home office If you only want in person. I’d need proof of vaccination and we’d have to be within a 1 mile radius.
