Monson Photography was officially started by me, Beth Monson, in 2009. I am located in Ludington, Michigan but willing to serve all surrounding areas as well as perform destination photography. I pride myself on my ability to interact with clients. I tend to have a relaxed nature and sense of humor that puts my subjects at ease. I want my clients to have fun during their session! I am not afraid to go the extra mile for my clients, which has led to me climbing a 'straight-up-and-down' two-track in a mud bogging truck, flying across a field on the back of a snowmobile, risking coronary failure whilst climbing the tallest sand dune known to man, concocting various barnyard noises in public, wading fully clothed into Lake Michigan, padding across a cow pile-littered dairy farm, belly crawling through the dirt, and touring around a lake on a bass fishing boat, among other things. Making your subject comfortable! I could go on and on about the technical stuff, but you could have a perfectly exposed and composed portrait ruined because you have not taken the time to make your subject comfortable.

I love interacting with all my clients, but what I really find rewarding is when someone comes to a session not really wanting to be there (i.e. high school senior boys, many dads!) but they end up really getting into it and laughing and enjoying our time together. I realize that people are not just paying for the photos - they are paying for the experience! And I would never want someone to feel like they had a lousy experience with me.
Two things: 1) Growing up, my dad was always the entrepreneurial sort, and I imagine that inspired me to have the courage to start my own business. 2) Great friends! The ones everyone needs in their life, that helps them recognize and make the most of a talent! If my friends hadn't pushed me, I might never have taken the leap!
Hopefully this doesn't come across as cliche, but I genuinely care about my clients. From the moment they first contact me, I handle their needs with great care. I value going above and beyond in customer service and doing right by my clients, the way I would want to be treated if I were the client. Also, people seem to like my goofy nature. I can't tell if they're laughing with me or at me sometimes, but it doesn't matter as long as they're having fun!
