At our first meeting with a client we ask a lot of questions! That's the only way to understand the client's style and how they function in the home. When we think we understand exactly what the client wants we will type up a proposal, going over everything we talked about so that there is no miscommunication. We explain the different ways we can charge for our work (time only, cost plus, or flat fee) and have the client sign the proposal, along with a retainer to begin the work.
Although I've always been talented in art and interested in design, I followed another path. After my children grew older I decided to return to school (although it was difficult since I still had a full-time job!). But I loved each class and met my business partner in a drafting class (we were definitely the oldest students). Neither of us wanted to work for someone else because we felt that we had the confidence and wisdom to go on our own. Boy, were WE wrong! It was a bit of a struggle in the early years, but we really love what we do and love working with clients to make their vision of a beautiful and functioning home a reality.
No job ever goes perfectly . . . don't believe what they show on HGTV! Many times there are delays from workrooms and vendors, or the perfect fabric you chose has been discontinued (arrghh!). But, we will keep you informed throughout the entire process so you're not left wondering what is going on. And if something does goes wrong, WE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT. By working with us you won't have to deal with all the little details (like a chandelier that turns out to be too large) or the headache of working with workman that won't return your calls. That's our job! We will also tell you exactly how we work and how we charge so there are no surprises.
