The heart of our work is creative problem solving, from the siting of buildings to the most graceful angle for a sill. We listen carefully to our clients, making sure we understand your needs and dreams, and bring to bear our years of experience with different ways of looking at a problem. Problems may be aesthetic, functional, or material - good design marries all three. We begin by meeting with you to discuss your building or site, what you hope to accomplish, your constraints, and your dreams.

As a painting contractor, I had the chance to work on several of Dietz and Associates projects. Helping to execute their vision for the space was extremely satisfying, as it always looked fantastic. They pay great attention to every detail, and have tremendous knowledge of all trades involved. The transformation of an old fur storage warehouse into an amazing living space in the Leather District of Boston remains my favorite project that I have ever worked on in the last 20 years.

Desiree was a true pleasure to work with. She understood our goals right away and executed efficiently, quickly and on budget. We had an excellent experience working with Heart & Hammer. If you're contemplating a kitchen remodel, absolutely go in and talk with them. Hannah was attentive to our input on wants and needs in our kitchen (a 100% gut and remodel), thoughtful in her recommendations on what was possible and why, punctual for all appointments and meetings, and knowledgeable about the cabinet makers they carry. She provided a well-thought-out set of initial plans and then worked with us on revisions based on our feedback. Cody completed the installation; it was done relatively quick and very high-quality work.

Lori is an amazing and dedicated design professional. She helped us decorate our new home with so much patience and immediately got a sense of our taste and style. Before we started working with Lori, we were struggling to make decisions about colors, dimensions, the right materials and pieces of furniture. Lori was able to immediately pull together samples, provide suggestions and even came to shop with us, which was extremely helpful. She made the decision-making process so easy and was mindful about our budget. Lori has a special gift to harmonize spaces together with excellent taste and is very patient and flexible.
Lori also has a great network of providers and contractors that did beautiful work in our house such as installing backplash, repainting a buffet and installing beatiful shades. Lori helped getting proposals from the contractors, coordinating appointments and was available to supervise the work. This saved us so much time and gave us peace of mind.
Lori is a great resource and a wonderful person and we highly recommend her for your interior design projects.

Lawless is a full-service design firm, which focuses on residential projects + boutique style commercial spaces. Our mission is to approach each project with a holistic vision, and we commit to designing spaces that are a true reflection of the clients living in them. Our firm is available to assist in all aspects of a project from start to finish including consulting with Architects and Builders, as well as providing a tailor-made approach to finishes and decor. We’ll revive your space into a functional beautiful space with furniture, fabrics, accessories, and provide you with custom pieces exclusively for your space.
It’s actually a very straight forward process! We kick off the project with an initial consolation, where I go to your space and talk to you about your wants and needs. Measurements and photos are taken of the space, as well. From there, a proposal is sent out to you after a couple of days, which gives a breakdown of the cost structure, project details, and design concepts. Once that is approved, I start with the floors plans and space planning to make sure that the new walls, fixtures, and items chosen will fit in the space properly. From there, the fun begins! Depending on the client’s preference to shop online, in person, or a mix of both, I start designing and making selections. I create digital concept boards with how all of the finishes, furniture, and fixtures will look. Additionally, I provide shopping lists, with the items and pricing, so the client is always aware of what everything will cost. When everything is all set and approved, I purchase everything for my clients and set up shipping for them. I work with Architects and Builders to assist with the construction, and am involved in every phase of the design. Once construction is wrapped up, we schedule a time for delivery and assembly to happen. My team assembles and styles your home according to the floor plans and your liking.
That’s the beauty with interior designers, being able to listen and absorb the information that you have relayed to us and utilizing that information in order to create a space that is perfectly catered for you. A lot of times my clients will have Instagram photos, Pinterest boards, or just a color pallet and stores that they love. That is why I also include some concept images in the proposal of what I am thinking for your space, so you can trust that I
will design to your liking.
My favorite part about the whole process is working with my clients and seeing their reactions with the revel. It’s so rewarding to see the joy on my client’s faces when they walk into their homes. One of my most cherished memories was doing a reveal for my client and her five year old son’s new apartment. Her son screamed with excitement and ran around the apartment. While I was showing my client some things in the living room, we popped into her bedroom a few minutes later. Her son was curled up, asleep in her bed. When he woke up he said, “Mom! Look at your room! It’s SO NICE!” It’s things like that, knowing that I’m making these homes for people, that make its so rewarding and why I love my job so much.
I always wanted to own my own business for years, but always thought it was something I would do later in life. My fiancé started his engineering company and encouraged me to do the same. I never thought I would love it as much as I do, and I'm so happy I did!
Honestly, I think it comes down to the client interaction. I’ve seen so many times where designers try to design to their own liking, and don’t think about the client’s needs. While a funky geometric glass coffee table may look great, it also is not going to be very practical for a family with small children. That’s what I love about the initial consultation. I rarely go right into talking about design, but I start off asking questions about the client. What do you do for work, what your interests are, your hobbies, how you envision the space being used, what works in the space for them and what doesn’t, etc. From that information there, I can already get a design going knowing that they will need extra storage for their kids toys, or to open up some walls to accommodate entertaining for a large amount of guests, etc. And that’s really what I love about designing, creating spaces that fit the client’s needs, and making them feel good in them. I’ve lived in cities before, and rented apartments there because I knew that it was going to be temporary. I didn’t but a ton of effort into designing, as I was only going to live there for a few months. But, that gets depressing. There’s something about making a house a home. Somewhere you are excited to be there, and you feel relaxed, and comfortable. A place that is functional and has proper storage (trust me, I know all about storage needs, I didn’t have a bedroom closet in my Boston apartment!).
