Megan was a pleasure to work with. She is a great communicator and took the time to get to know my tastes. The design project was finished on time and under budget. I love the new look of my home.
The colors are vibrant and the decor reflects my style exactly. Megan is indeed a consummate professional.
I spoke to several designers before Megan and she impressed me with her straightforward manner and non pretentions attitude as well as her thorough knowledge of her field.
She is easy to work with and I have recommended her to all my friends and colleagues.

Michael, Michael, Michael. Can't live with him, can't live without him. (In a good way!)
I met Michael through a mutual client whose house he decorated and I absolutely fell in love with his aesthetic. Modern, yet cozy... elegant, yet hip... but ultimately immaculate.
Fast forward a year later, I look to opening my new nail salon in Jack London Square, called Rock & Polish. (Yes, shameless plug!) I knew what I wanted, but didn't know how to achieve it. I knew I loved organic items, wood, polished cement, I loved the masculine design yet with the perfect feminine touches.
Michael was kind enough to spend the time with me really understanding my taste, my vision, my wants, & my desires of how I wanted the salon to look. I wanted it too look like no other nail salon anyone had seen before.
He took my hand and guided me through the process. Picking out wallpapers, paint colors, artwork, furniture. I will say, sometimes you've got to just blindly trust him. As a self-confessed control freak, it was hard, but I'm so SO glad that I did.
Michael's eye for details and perfection and absolutely exquisite taste makes you feel like a million bucks. He stayed within my color palette and understood working with a budget, but he made it happen.
There were moments in the process where I'm pretty sure I had an ulcer from worry and relinquishing control of my project, but the moment it all came together, I knew it was perfect. I couldn't have asked for more.
Thank you Michael Friedes, along with your team, Halley, Anna, Ann, & anyone else I may have missed. xoxo Hire MFDA, you'll be so happy you did.

Georgina and Suresh are fantastic. They listen extremely well, and design for their clients, not for themselves. Their sewing shop produces extraordinarily well-made things (curtains, shades, pillows, slipcovers) and their upholstery work is meticulous. They are both friendly, easy to work with, and incredibly responsive to their client's needs. They can produce work at any budget, and produce beautiful work within your budget. They are resourceful and tireless in finding just the right thing.

Total 5-star experience working with Gina from California Daydreams Design. As a result of Gina’s effort, I’ve found myself in my new apartment surrounded by furnishings and an overall design layout that makes this home feel delightful, and uniquely mine.
As a design novice, I’m blown away by how effectively Gina made that happen.
Gina has a very adaptive and open-minded approach. She kicked off the partnership by listening and getting a sense of my goals/plan, the space, and my budget. She created designs based on a combination of (a) the style preferences that I’d communicated to her previously and (b) her own instincts on items I might like.
Gina built a productive and enjoyable feedback loop, where we bounced ideas back and forth. This process led to even better ideas, along with altogether new ideas (including a reading chair + lamp setup by the window I had no idea I wanted but now love). It was also just a really enjoyable collaboration throughout.

1) We'll visit with you on site, get to know you and your home, talk with you about your goals and provide some spontaneous design ideas regarding how to transform your home. The meeting will give you an idea of how we'll approach your project, along with a potential project timeline and fees.
2) This is the initial phase of the project where we explore the many possibilities for the transformation of your home. This exploration is based on our initial site visit and follow up conversations regarding direction, design theme, finishes, use, etc. We use imagery and sketches to convey design intent. This phase typically involves the manipulation of existing floor plans showing direction for the new use of spaces. It can also include sketches showing alterations to the exterior elevations, site plan and interior spaces. We often rely on 3D renderings to bring even more clarity to the design direction.
3) Once the Conceptual Design/Design Development Phase is completed we begin work on Construction Documents. These computer generated drawings include technical details that will be submitted to your local planning or building department. If the project is of a larger scale, we'll submit to the planning department first. Once the general plan is approved, we'll generate the necessary additional documents for your building permit set. These are the drawings that will allow you to obtain your building permit.
Along with creating your Construction Documents, we'll need to create Interior Drawings of spaces within the project. Depending on the scope of work, Interior Drawings are typically provided for, but not limited to, Kitchens and Bathrooms. However, they can also include Bookshelves, a new Fireplace, Laundry Room, etc. These Drawings will give a more informative view of these spaces and provide necessary details for your contractor to properly build and carry out our intended design.
4) During the Conceptual Design and Design & Development phases we get an idea of not only how the house will function, but what it will look like. Running concurrent with the Construction Documents/Interior Drawings phase, we'll finalize all materials and finishes for your project. This is the "Selection of Finishes." In this phase we'll organize finishes per space and present them in a manner that makes sense to both you and your contractor. This will also allow you to see all of the finishes together, with simple, yet critical information. This information will contain color, size, vendor, price, quantity, etc.
5) Once construction of your project has been completed you'll receive notification from the Building Department that the work has been done in compliance with your design team and governing building codes. The project is now "final" and you are ready to enjoy your recently renovated space(s). Congratulations!
Thank you for taking the time to understand how we work. If we can answer any additional questions please give us a call. We'll look forward to speaking with you about your project! And in review of our Process we've placed below some simple examples showing the typical steps taken from the beginning of the conceptual design to the completed space.
Additionally, you can visit our website for additional information re the process. This includes before & after photos and examples of conceptual drawings and submittal sets... https://www.urrutiadesign.com/process
We cater to all design styles and enjoy the creative challenge of "refreshing" a home while not compromising the integrity of the original architecture. If a client prefers to something more personable and dramatic, like altering the original style of the home, we are also happy to help them with their own unique dream and journey.
The best part of the job is having a great working relationship with the client, ultimately resulting in a great project. This entails having a true understanding of the client's wishes, bringing new and sensible ideas to the table, gaining the trust of the client, building the necessary foundation to move forward resulting in the most beneficial transformation of the client's home.
Simple. We wanted to have complete control of our interactions with our clients allowing us to provide the truest design approach to their projects.
Finding the right home designer is the most important aspect of this journey. It sets the tone for all things to come. Basically, we're a one-stop-shop. From first meeting to project completion, we form a relationship with you that's built on sensibility and trust. And it's that trust that will create a very successful transformation of your home.
In short, we'll visit your home and listen carefully to your goals. We set in motion a design language for your design by providing design options at every corner. We discuss the pros and cons of all options and help you set a cohesive design that make spaces seamlessly relate to one another. This will make for a much improved home while also better protecting your real estate investment. And, if you change your mind about certain design elements, we can make those changes quickly to keep things moving! We're always available to our clients (text, email, phone) to answer questions that you may have.
We'll help you navigate through the contractor selection/bidding and always be available for quick interaction with your contractor to help with additional information and timing. We want you to have a smooth ride and get you back in your new home as soon as possible. It's important to be able to enjoy this experience as well as your new home!
Absolutely! A lot of our work and interaction with local clients is done via phone, as well as with emails containing design photos, interior drawings, hand sketches, 3D models, links to furniture/materials/specifications, etc. And with working around Covid we've been forced to work remotely even more often with our local clients. So we've essentially been refining our remote work skills for 2 and a half years.
With clients that are not local, we have a blue print for navigating this type of relationship and distance. And to further ensure that we stay on the same page with all aspects of our design, we communicate more often with them.
Covid has been challenging for all of us and maintaining safety has been our primary concern when interacting in person with our clients. When on site visits or meeting with vendors/municipalities/tradespeople we wear a protective mask and request proper ventilation and fresh air at all times. We've also relied more on outdoor meetings or phone meetings as an alternative to meeting indoors. Zoom has also become a big part of our practice.
