I’m a working musician with over 30 years experience playing electric/acoustic guitar and electric/upright bass in a variety of styles. I work with novice to advanced players, tailoring lessons to what motivates you to play. My lessons always emphasize playing - because no matter the level, the joy is in the playing! I teach on-line and in person, and I'm available at various time throughout the week. First lesson is free. Lessons are a minimum of 30 minutes and maximum of 1 hour. Please contact me if you would like to chat about your specific goals or if you want to know more about my teaching methods.
I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old - and I continue to "play" because music has never been work or a job for me. Whether I'm playing guitar, bass, keyboards, or simply listening to a recording, music is a never-ending journey of learning - and I really enjoy what I do because every day brings something new.
A friend once asked me to teach him a few chords - and I really enjoyed the process of teaching someone how to play. I also realized that I've overcome a lot of roadblocks in my learning process - My personal experience helps me teach others how to overcome their own challenges.
I teach from a place that emphasizes "play" - Because we play music, either for ourselves or with other musicians or listeners. While there are exercises and study involved, my goal for a student is to find enjoyment in playing music and achieving a sense of accomplishment. I like to know what my students want to learn, and my role is to help them reach that goal in a fun and nurturing way.
I offer remote lessons via Zoom with multiple camera angles to demonstrate what my left and right hands are doing. I use various apps (MuseScore, Soundtrap, Chordie) for chord charts, jam sessions, and teaching theory. I also send a written follow up after each lesson to outline weekly goals and exercises.
I've established online lessons over Zoom and use various apps such as MuseScore and Soundtrap as teaching aids.
