Rebranding is a labyrinth. Go with an experienced guide.
The journey that brought me to this talented team was a long, hard road. I was a stylist building my own brand. I tried doing it myself. I tried doing it for pennies. I did what looked good to me and I did it with a complete lack of design knowledge or experience. It was not good. Learning that your branding is not what you like, but what your target market likes (and more importantly, responds to) was a hard lesson for me.
When I sat down with Caitlin and Becky for the first time, I was terrified. If branding isn't just what I like to look at, then wouldn't there be a disconnect between what my business looks like and, well, me?
The ladies listened to me talk about my business and somehow translated my rambling into simple bits, design elements broken down into bite-sized pieces. I picked out what I liked and they sent me more. One step at a time, we built something I would have never imagined on my own but when it all came together, it was everything.
Along the way, they were patient with my dumb questions. When they gave me something to look at and I suggested a few adjustments, the adjustments were made and explained. Sometimes I was right. Most of the time, the adjustments were graciously made for me to realize the Paper Pennant team was right all along.
I was given a timeline and updated along the way. To be honest, the process took longer than I initially anticipated but I came looking for a logo; I had no idea what detail went into a rebranding project. At the end, what I was handed is a Brand Manual. This piece of magic is a guide to the look and feel of my business as a whole. A logo, but also colors, fonts, icons, design elements. In all the formats I didn't know to ask for and each labeled with it's use. Seriously. It's beautiful.
Rebranding is a labyrinth. Go with an experienced guide. Paper Pennant held my hand on our journey to the center and then left me with a map and a feeling of small business empowerment. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it sooner.
